Several books I've read seem to intimate a reverence for the pilots of these, from the fighter pilots. If you have a look at the dimensions of the Vig. and compare it to an F-14, it becomes quite interesting! A carrier captain I know on another forum says that the Toms' took up the most deck space as they were big birds. RA-5 Length: 76 ft 6 in (23.32 m) Wingspan: 53 ft 0 in (16.16 m) Height: 19 ft 4¾ in (5.91 m) F-14 Length: 62 ft 9 in (19.1 m) Wingspan:Spread: 64 ft (19.55 m) Height: 16 ft (4.88 m) The folding tail was rather interesting too! jean Posted July 24, 2015 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Well, it's the first time I've seen the Airfix Vigilante built, and I must admit it does look like a Vigilante should look! Good show with your build J. Not easy to brush paint a large aircraft. If I may be so bold, with your next model you should try to thin your paint a bit more (like 20% turp and 80% paint for Humbrol). After 3 coats the finish will be much smoother. Well done!
