Hello here is my entry, well the box top anyway!

17062811380_f7db40139b_b.jpgNew 1/72 Project by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr

I'll be using Xtradecals X003-72 and some Verlinden seats in the build. Truth be told I started this kit about a week ago before I saw the Group Build, I think it's it's well under 25% started though. I'll post some shots later as she sits now showing the progress and hope the limited work that has been done is acceptable.

Just looking for a clean build, and some fun.

As stated above here was the progress before I stopped to join the group build, basically sprayed the fuselage sides and cockpit parts....but no detail painting etc. I hope it's ok.

Well now that the fun has officially begun, I can give you some more information.

The painting process for the cockpit was as follows.

1. Base coat in NATO Black

2. Color coat in Sky Grey

3. Seal paint with Testors Metalizer (to give a gloss for the wash)

4. Wash applied with MM Schwarzgrau

5. A veil of Sky Grey applied to tone down the wash

6. Sealer coat of AV Flat

Just clicking along!

I have the fuselage halves detail painted and finished, next up the pit and instrument panels. Detail painting was done with AV black then dry brushed with a dark grey.

This is terrific! This Group Build is a great opportunity to see a number of manufacturers kits in detail. It looks as though the Fujimi cockpit has much better moulded in detail than Hasegawa's offering. Looking forward to seeing more of this kind of detail.

Work this morning involved painting the black areas of the pit. Using the same techniques and paint described above, I filled in the appropriate areas. A light grey dry brush to the buttons and switches brought some of them to the surface, but I'll add some more color to them later.

Ok last work for today, I managed to get all the detail button work out of the way. Not the hardest thing to do...you just lightly touch the tops of each button with paint. I alternate between white and light grey with some red here and there. Glad it's over!

The reference book I have has a picture of a smallish joystick to the right of the radar scope.

Yes that is the radar targeting stick I believe, I was asking about having an extra flight control stick in the rear.

I don't believe there was an extra control stick, judging by pictures I've seen. Nice work by the way. :)

I can look in the British Phantoms Volume 1 book when I get home today (I'm in the USA). I believe they discuss which aircraft were twin-stick.

Oh, indeed you are! My wife lived in St. Pete for a time before coming back to Chicago to throw her life away by marrying me.

Hedgehog bites aren't too bad, generally, they usually give you an exploratory warning nip before they go to town, but mine does sometimes try to eat my wedding ring off my finger.

Nice progress mate! Very neat work on painting the individual switches, I found it quite tricky to make them not just look like blobs of colours so appreciate the subtlely you used :goodjob:

Thanks, the button painting is time consuming, but worth the effort.....though I do prefer decals in this scale! The ones I the kit were unusable plus the raised detail is so crisp I just had to paint them.
