Dermo245
So got decals finished and added some random stencils from the spares box Then a Flory Models panel wash... And after... In the home stretch, just the final bits to add! Quick question - satin or matt finish on Vietnam era Navy Phantoms? Thanks for looking, Dermot
Jabba
Considering the age of the model angainst some of the state of the art modern ones, you have done a very good job with this model. I also like the more unusual Sqn that you have chosen as the markings. Well done.
Dermo245
Thanks lads. So I fitted the gear last night which is sturdy if not massively detailed. I broke the nose gear when removing it from the sprue earlier in the build and while I thought I had re-glued it straight, it's pointing right, ever so slightly. When I look at it again, I'm happy that it looks like it's parked up! Also added the dropped flaps and the tiny triangular windows in the cockpit. Will finish the canopy, centreline tank and missiles tonight hopefully! Thanks as always for looking, Dermot
Dermo245
So almost there now...added the Sparrows (from the kit), Sidewinders (from spares) and the singe centreline droptank (also from the kit). The kit doors are quite thick (like meself) and I thought about changing them but nah, the intention was always to have fun with this kit, accept its limitations and just enjoy the build. Just need to do a line wash on the Sidewinder rails, add the canopy pieces, a matt coat and we're done! Cheers, Dermot
Dermo245
And we're done! Will get some better pictures over the weekend for the Gallery. Airfix's trusty old F-4B - some panel lines scribed, some etch made fit in the cockpit and a mix of kit and aftermarket decals. Not the most accurate or detailed F-4 but it was my first Phantom and I had a lot of fun. I think the old girl scrubs up well for her age! Cheers for all your comments along the way and thanks to Sean & Mish for a really enjoyable GB - look forward to seeing your Phantom builds before the GB ends! All the best, Dermot

nimrod54
Phabulous job Dermot, she's a beauty. I've always liked the grey/white schemes they look better than greys of today.
