jchor
hello guys, i am jchor new comer here, need some advice on iraqi scud camo colors. just bought a Tokso model 1/72 Scud-B launcher yesterday. and a paint set from Ammo Mig Yom kippur war colors. also waiting for Ammo Mig tires and tracks paint set coming only next month...not sure the yom kippur war colors are suitable for Iraqi scud lolx... i was intending to do a Iraqi Scud missle. however searching the internet shows mostly iraqi scud are a plain desert color with a white missle. another iraqi scud internet picture shows a desert camo with very fine irregular brown camo. see picture below. i just wonder if there is any simpler iraqi scud 2 tone or 2 tone camo? i guess the fine brown camo above are very hard to paint...do you airbrush or hand paint these fine brown camo? thanks
Andy Moore
Hi jchor, welcome to Britmodeller I believe that some Iraqi Scuds also wore a sand/olive green camo at various times The fine brown lines on the camo you mentioned above would have been sprayed on the real vehicle but, in 1/72, it would look better if they were brush painted. Just build the lines up with thinned paint Andy
jchor
hi AndyRM101 thanks for advice. yeah i was thinking the fine brown/sand camo will be hard todo in 1/72 scale, so small.... they look like those hard to paint WWII german panzer tanks camo... do you have any pictures of Iraqi Scud in 2 tone sand/green camo?i was thinking a 2 tone sand/green camo will be much easier. also for the Scud vechicle interiors can i paint them light grey? because they were lacking on the instruction sheet... thanks
Andy Moore
I can't find any photos of an Iraqi Scud in sand/green but if they did wear it, it would probably have been similar to this You could also try the two tone sand camo on this SA-6 although I don't know if the Scuds ever wore it Andy
jchor
hello andy thanks for those great pictures. i have another question. normally are these scud vechicle convoy moving alone? or they are protected by some other armor vechicles. example AA guns, apc or even tanks? thanks
philp
Most of the pics I can find of Iraqi Scud launchers and missiles from Desert Storm time appear to be tan and the missiles also tan, though could be some in white or light grey. Not sure what would be included in convoys but normally they were hidden where ever and pretty much just came out to shoot and go hide again (under bridges, etc). http://www.americanspecialops.com/images/delta-force/scud.jpg Did find this pic but no idea if it is an Iraqi vehicle or not. http://fas.org/nuke/guide/iraq/missile/scud-carrier1.jpg
Andy Moore
I'd imagine they would normally be moved under cover of night. There's an interesting article that refers to support vehicles disguised as buses and other commercial vehicles https://www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/monograph_reports/MR1408/MR1408.ch3.pdf Andy

Only camouflaged Scud TEL was the one in the FAS photo you posted. All others sand with white missile. FYI the camouflaged one carried a dark green missile. BTW Trumpeter has the same vehicle as an option in their 1/35 scale kit and gives the camo as brown over sand but it's most likely green.
