amazing tutorial - really interesting; great to see the craftsmanship and creativeness

Thanks mate glad you like it. I'm just making it up as I go along ive never really done anything as drastic as this before. Cutting the intakes in half was the hardest part. There must be an easier way that scoring with a Tamiya scriber and using a file to cut it in half but it worked. Painful in the hands though.

Cheers Rob :)

Might be worth getting a JLC Saw if you haven't got one? This set has two blades and a set of spacers so that you can cut strips. The saw's great - stiff, fine blade. There's a 'standard' set too for about £12.

Thanks mate it's a new thing for me but looks worth getting even though I don't know how to use it yet.

Cheers for the link :)

Well I've been fiddling around with these intakes filling and sanding away like mad and built up the rounded lips on the wing root of the intake with milliput.

I already have ideas how else I could go about these but for now with the amount of work ive out into them

I'm going ahead with these.

50023E30-8FB7-43D9-8939-E5504D14E126-232

I have also made a mold for my tail rudder extension and fitting this to the B2

AB64F2F5-BC5A-4469-AD45-DF7467A9A8DC-136

B6132ADA-5A75-47A3-AAB9-888841D0C640-504

4701BD2E-2651-404F-82FE-F2BE3B9D31CE-504

I have removed the TFT thimble from the nose and removed the strange lump forward of the bomb blister and reshaped the bomb blister to give it rounded edges like the real thing. No need for a window as XH533 did not have one.

4D00ABE3-7699-447E-9863-1F519DBBEA18-504

I have also rescribed the Radom lines to complete them around the nose and correct the odd line at the rear corners on the kit kit line, these sweep back but should be straight.

ED0DB0C3-77E9-43F3-96CF-4445493B383B-504

I had made this B2 with the Kit intakes before I thought about using my small ones which is a shame as XH533 had small ones but it's a minor detail insuppose.

Rob, cracking work as usual. You make this scratch building lark look easy.

Dave

Cheers mate. I'm new to the scratchbuild thing and I forever wondered how to do it and it seemed a mystery and then figured the only way to do it is just do it, in a sense it's easier as there are no parts to not fit you have to make it all fit. Doing parts is one thing though but an entire model.. Now that's something else.

I have some other plans and I fancy one day scratching a huge Vulcan out of plasticard and or wood. It would be nice to have a 1/32 scale straight wing silver B1 to take to shows.

I just wish I had more time :), mind you it don't take too long and it's a lot of fun.

Cheers Rob :)

Great work as usual Rob. Inspired by your builds, I pulled out one of my Cyber Hobby 1/200 B2 kits on Tuesday and made a start on cleaning up some of the parts. I plan to do this OOB and, following your example, I have decided on a model that is in-flight so added the undercarriage doors and Blue Steel bay to the lower wing assembly. Need to do a bit of filling to these areas and then I can check the fit of the intakes before closing things up.

It will probably be a while before I do any more to it but hey, I've made a start and thanks to you for all the inspiration bud.

Its a nice dream. I dunno if I can do it or how hard it would be but you got to try to find out. I Have just dug out some of the plans I have and found some smaller keelcraft plans looks around 1/48 Which might be a good starting point to do a more manageable sized one.

Fun and swearing ahead me thinks :)

Hi John good to hear from you, Its cool you feel inspired to try I look forward to seeing that as your quite a master of small kits and love your builds when I get chance to look at them. Why not renumber it and do something slightly different to the OOB offering. Also if your doing a Camo one don't get tricked with putting a roundel on both wings should only be 1. (sure you know this anyhow)

Love to see your WIP. all the best Rob :)

Well looks like narrow resin replacement intakes exist as well as tail cones now :)

73BCF9C9-FF83-47AF-A48C-328AF3BA47E3-504

The B1 is catching up with the B2 here seen with my older B2 XH535

The resin intake are a breeze to fit with minimal blending needed.

1EF1558E-6D5D-47A0-89FF-73EA2E1A10C0-504

I started masking the windows of XH533 with schools PVA and painted Her grey as a base coat covering the intakes with Blu tak to protect the White inside. This is to ensure opacity of the canopy and model and give some evenness to the White coat

A13FC886-546A-461E-ACD8-D1B84517209B-504

Then I spent time tidying up filling and scribing the areas needed and began to apply the White.

074AA807-693B-460F-9BD1-3060D30D87F3-379

I think this shape with the extended original tail flows so beautifully, It is as it was intended I suppose graceful and aerodynamic.

So there it is so far, now for some other black and silver paints a drop of tan here and there and some decals and we should have an early B2 the first one XH533 :)

Cheers Perdu glad you approve ;)

Charlie_c67 yes it would be nice to make them all available in some fashion at some point once they are ready and a suitable number can be offered, I'd need to think about pricing , packaging, brand name and logo, margins, website, marketing, method of business and how to sell them and on what type of service, All things I need to work on as its new to me and likely far more difficult than scratching or casting. Which I am also new too.

I have no idea if there would be a market for them. I'd like to think so as I love V-Bombers and sure others do. Even if it did not go further I will still be making them just because I have passion for the subject I also have many other plans for the future. I would not want to expect any sales but just to know there are some kits and parts there for folk who want to have ago would make me happy.

But as with all things in this world we have to big enemyies Time and Money the later being the most hard to access. In order to take this to a retail level it would take a lot money so I intend to start small as I have not option.

I am just happy you can see potential in them. I am certainly enjoying it :)

I will be at Milton Keynes show tommoro all packed up ready to go with some of this stuff with me.

Cheers Rob :)

Good luck at the show Rob.

If you've got something people want then 'business' is easy - just be yourself, charge what people think your products worth and don't listen to people who think 'growth' is all that matters. You need to be comfortable with your business, or you won't enjoy it.

Ced of course, is absolutely right

What matters is what you and others want

(hope you have enough of what folks want when they realise there's new stuff out there)

go boy go ;)

Yep Ced and Perdu I have seen too many businesses go down the toilet and everytime is was due to greed lack of imagination and lack of passion or loss of interest ln what was supposed to be achieved. Also failing to be adventurous.

I am also Interested in other subjects other modellers might want to see as ever money is the issue but first we need ideas the. Masters to mold from. but it's early yet. I'm thinkjng things like tail fins, cones, noses, wheels, props etc but I imagine there is already a lot of things covered

Conplete kits also interest me.

cheers Rob :)

Lovely job Rob, those intakes look fantastic. I hope that you enjoy the show tomorrow and get plenty of positive feedback, it's well deserved.

Well just got back from the show and glad to to say we had plenty of positive feedback about the resin and a great time in general at Milton keynes show.

I managed to get hold of a victor too from GWH so can't wait to get stuck into that one. Glad you like the intakes mate.

Was darn hot upstairs but well worth it.

I have used Corgi Wheels as these are more accurate if a bit basic than the kit ones. They are stronger tkl and the wheels roll YAY !!

They fit in with Blu tak and can be changed at a later date when I make some modded resin jobs for them. The sit is much better with these the PR GWH ones look great but result in a low sitting vulcan and the the rear gears struts have far to steep an angle to them. Minor detail but I tend to side with Robust in this occasion and better stance.

I'm painting up the Corgi wheels after sanding away molding lines

14D40C16-FAFF-409E-AC6A-A262371A52A5-189

I used some number and stencils from the fun decals sheet but sadly discovered the roundels for the side fuselage are two small they should be 54" not 48" A minor detail but still a fabulous sheet and very welcome for everything else just hope its amended on future runs of decal sheets. Instead I'll be using the Mark1 decals sheet for D type roundels.

I've been masking and painting the black radome and fin cap, tan/brown dielectric panels and exhausts using Revell Aqua and Citadel paints

As for the B1 it's had its intakes painted white and a further mod the boundary layer bleed slots fitted which is another area where B1s differred to B2s

The B1 with the kinked wing has now been stuck together with resin and filler added. I opted for the later longer tail cone on this one.

Well they were not lieing when they said the wings only had the fuel tanks in common, im having to fill in all the B2 wing details and scribe in the control surfaces which again are totally different to the B2.

Cheers Ced the B1 may never get finished for what I have planned for her. As for XH533 she is nearing completion now.

Cheers Rob :)
