robvulcan Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 keepin' on coming on Rob Nice work mate Cheers Perdu I have been cracking on late last night in the early hours of this morning and again still now (started another Vulcan kit in betwean castings ! ) Here was the first fill 1st casting I have now also made the earlier 698/B1 tail cone and now I think I might set about converting a B1 too I have primed the new earlier style one and that with the original can be seen in grey the rest are resin copies seen here with my corgi Victor and B2 Vulcan XH535 So now I have 2 operational molds and can make as many early Vulcan tail cones in both styles as I like I think its time to press on and make some more pieces to convert this kit further. Cheers Rob 1
Val Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I don't drink much these days. In fact until recently I did not drink at all but now I have the odd one. Not like my college days though.... I remember they said "This is not school we treat you as adults here, you can do as you wish if you choose to not attend your lessons thats up to you !" ,,..... Every lunch after that we all headed for the Pub and thats where we would stay often till kicking out time........ Man I could not even afford that now. Yes mate, know what you mean. At 6th form £10 used to pay for an entire night at the pub and a kebab on the way home. Now £10 seems to get you a beer and a packet of dry roasted, if you're lucky!! To be fair, I don't often drink either. Only at weekends, and then if I haven't got a gig. I'm too grumpy to put up with hangovers these days!! #lightweight Some fine workmanship here mate, really impressive. A great build thread! 1
CedB Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Great work and great results Rob. That lot should keep you going for, ooh, a couple of weeks or so... 1
robvulcan Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Val ye you sure can't get out for your money these days lean times indeed, glad you like the thread Yep should keep me busy for a very long time CedB and maybe some other folk in the future Cheers Rob 2
S5 modeller Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Lovely casting work there mate, you make it look easy. Nice brace of tails, just need a load of kits to go with them! Matt. 1
nimrod54 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Oooh goody, popcorn time again. Tuned in for this one bud. 1
robvulcan Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Cheers Matt I may one day be able to offer them for other once I have made a few more components. John thanks we all like popcorn on here it' seems, Britmodeller should start their own Brand "popcorn with a British flavour , BEEF !"
robvulcan Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Well time to test fit my first resin piece. A comparison of the rear ends. Original B2: And the ECM B2 Time to get some milliput in this for nose weight the throw it together early B2 here we come 3
robvulcan Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 I've finished spraying the intakes white. Plenty of milliput was added as a nose weight, I've painted the pit black and that's all, not much to see Then I fitted the intakes and glued the halls together. So soon I'll be able to glue the tail cone on and start filling and blending it in 2
robvulcan Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Ive decided to start cutting up another kit from the stash and go about making a B1 too. So I have made a template from the drawings to mark things out. And now the fuselage is together I am test fitting and gluing in the resin piece with Super Glue. I am quite a fan of the new rubber infused stuff works a treat and sands nicely. Ive also done a bit more to the leg extension to correct the B2 leg to the right length and shape. Its only a slight difference but will make the final sit look better. I need to shape the milliput some more but I am using the Airfix part as a guide Finally to see how things are looking before I start blending and filling in, A squirt of primer on the tail area. Cheers Rob 2
robvulcan Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Now as the super glue has dried I put some Mr Surfacer around the join and how im sanding, carving and filing the high points so the resin and body conform and blend smoothly. I'm pretty happy with the results so far it's cool to be able to do early Vulcans at last. I made up some laminate plasticard to start making up the fillet to extend the tail fin rudder down to the tail cone. I've also started to mod another kit to B1 here you can see one wing being cut and the other marked up Here is the basic shape And to show how much is removed A comparison of how wildly different the wing kinks are with B1 and B2 That's al for now 6
general melchett Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Just trawled through this lot Rob, great stuff ....I think you're starting to get the hang of this Vulcan conversion malarkey ! So this one will be ready for the table next Sunday then....... 1
woody37 Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 You would think he has a soft spot for the old Vulcan Andy wouldn't you? You're going to be rather busy this week Rob with two Vulcans to complete for the weekend, don't get distracted with work or anything like that 1
robvulcan Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 Andy I'll try to get it finished for Sunday but I'll have to get me a time machine first, however if I did I'd likely only be found at the end of waddo runway in the 50s with a flask of tea some bacon sandwiches and a big smile on my face watching tin triangles in their original form wailing around. I'd also have my video camera with me Neil yeah busy week say can't ignore work but I'll try all the same yep soft spot for the Vulcan hoes some way to explaining it. I wish could clone myself then I might achieve more. I might even get around to building something. Different as its been vulcan heavy the last 3 years. (Understatement that is) Cheers Rob
robvulcan Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 Update time. I have been marking up the exhausts for modding them to 100 series exhausts. Or as close too. The are much shorter and slightly sloped at the back so they are longer on top than the bottom. Attractive too if you ask me. A wing template. Time for the B1 to get its backside cut off.. And here pretty much is a B1 now. Modded exhausts just need reaming out now notice the sloped angle Little and Large. I have cut the the lovely one piece intakes in half An attempt at narrowing the intakes I can see I might be revisiting this, As I note the kit has a fat wing route which dont help and the intakes given look like wide b1 intakes rather than b2 ones as they are incorrectly shaped at the bottom. I feel tired 4
CedB Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Amazing, and brave, work Rob! Still watching with interest. 1
Ex-FAAWAFU Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 God the size difference is huge! I had no idea 1
robvulcan Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 Amazing, and brave, work Rob! Still watching with interest. Cheers mate when you want something so bad it's worth the risk l God the size difference is huge! I had no idea Yep they were totally different aircraft that look similar same nose same tail but after that totally different, inside too, th wings of the b1 bore no similarity to the B2 at all except for the fuel tank, They even had different tyres and wheels for Gods sake, they can't leave anything alone engineers I love it all the differences fascinate me it gives some insight into defence spending. ! Cheers Rob 1
robvulcan Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Yep ... These intakes are gonna be hard work now.. I am having to laminate plasticard and using balsa to keep them true while they bond together. I need to extend the lips of the intakes so they fill the space of the aperture. 2
David Womby Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Hi Rob I see you are still at it (Vulcaneering, I mean). How many of those tailcones did you cast? It looks like enough to build a couple of squadrons worth. David 2
Ex-FAAWAFU Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Hi Rob I see you are still at it (Vulcaneering, I mean). How many of those tailcones did you cast? It looks like enough to build a couple of squadrons worth. David And there's another man with a fine avatar! 1
robvulcan Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Impressive stuff Thanks mate Looking good Rob (unlike your scary new avatar!) Oh Dr Rockso is cool give him some cocain and he's a happy chappy, He's a spoof on David Lee Roth from the awsome series Metalocalypse I can't get enough of at the moment. Got a bit sick of my face might put it back on sometime Hi Rob I see you are still at it (Vulcaneering, I mean). How many of those tailcones did you cast? It looks like enough to build a couple of squadrons worth. David Yep still doing the same thing over and over (insanity) I have cast about 30 odd now. It's fun not far off the real deal as 45 were made plus 2 prototypes I think And there's another man with a fine avatar! thanks mate 1
Ace From Outer Space Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Wow Rob, proper plastic engineering! Fab mate! 1
