AntPhillips
I was going to ask too, but decided not too, because I just knew someone would castigate me for not recognizing the latest "Clodhopper's Magical Modelling Tool", so now that you've shown it to us, would you care to explain what it does? basket
Hello everybody , So .. for Giorgio, Ant and fellow readers : here is the answer : This is NOT a toy that you could use for " la bagatelle " as we say in French ... no ! no ! ( I'm pretty sure some readers had thoughts close to that , especially French ones !!! ) This is a hand vise for jewellers ( étau de bijoutier en français ) and ... why not for modellers ! it works like that : As you can see , it will help me with my Etendard's broken hook ! Cheers !

basket
When you think about it ..... .... a tail hook has to be strong, very strong and almost indestructible, and on REAL birds ... IT IS : example below .... .... And when I think about MY bird's one ... IT IS NOT ! And on top of that ... it is awfully ugly !!!! My first idea was to leave the hook as the single not-modified part of my Etendard ... but now ... ..... Something has to be done ! It will be the subject of the next post ! basket
Hi all ! Since the tail hook decided to break up , I decided to built another one and a more accurate . The idea is to reach something close to that : Etendard ( EIV ) and Super Etendard modernisé ( SEM ) are equipped with identical hooks. 1 -Let's use the original part as template : 2 - Some evergreen for the "H style" structure . 3 - let's cut the bars . It has to be as precise as possible ( angle ) unless it won't fit into the bird's tail. I re-used the top ends ( gray ) . 4 - It's time for my hand vise to go on stage !!! Tadaaaaa ! Please note the smooth cork pads The "fang" ( I hope my translation is OK ? ) will be modified using the original part to handle it more easily. #1 = the pad in 2 parts ( the part that scratches against the deck is narrower ). #2 = base ( white ) for the bolts ( snail-like gray stretched sprues ) ) that hold the pad . #3 = razor cut for the bolts to avoid as much pressure as possible ( really tiny parts !!! ). 5 - the bolts ( on the sides ) that hold the fang to the bars . #1 = bottom view #2 = top view I know : they should have an octagonal section , but I didn't have any available .. 6 - the bolts on the bars : this time the streched sprue comes from a "dead" 1/72 Heller Mirage IVA ( I love the idea to have a part from an antique on a new project ). 7 - The "fang" is cut from the ugly hook ( PE saw ) and glued on the brand new one , then the whole shape is controlled on ( literally ! ) my "blueprint" 8 - It's time to compare with the real thing . It's not 100% accurate but the general shape is OK for me, and as I said before , far better than the Heller stuff. Thank's for passing by . Feel free to comment if you want !

basket
Matchbox! Yes !!!!! Congrats to you !!!! I was starting to ask myself : " are we on BRITmodeller here ? " It seems we actually are ! And here is the original box , ...and the part that was intended to be glued on my kit ... unfortunately ... it was devoured by the carpet monster . But what is it ... in fact what was it ? You'll get the answer in my next post . Edit : @muzz : your Czech MiG21 is very very very nice ! basket
Hi fellow readers ! After the tail hook , let's work on the tail of the bird ... in fact ... under the tail ! Unfortunately I didn't find any photograph of an operational Etendard IV tail . I've only found one of a preserved one ( E IV ) . If you compare it to the one of an operational Super Etendard ( SEM ) you'll discover that those areas are pretty similar between the two birds. So I decided to take the SEM as my reference. Keeping this in mind I reasonably assume that : - The black stuff ( # 1 - it's a kind of shock pad in fact ) is inverted on the E IV . - Reinforcing plates are missing ( # 2 ) - The hook housing has to be extended ( # 3 ) - 4mm in 1/48. And the model : Did you notice the former MiG21 part ? Thanks again for reading .
