1:72 Tornado GR4 "Dambusters 70th Anniversary" Revell + Mods

Recommended Posts

Amazing build! Your attention to detail, and more importantly your eye for it, is incredible. I admire your relentless pursuit of perfection, and willingness to try new techniques. Magnificent results! :):):)

Bookmarked for whenever I attempt the same project.

Cheers,

Bill

Bl**dy hell, that's turned out nice! But it was always going to be immaculate. I admire your dogged perseverence in the quest for perfection.

What's next - a well-deserved break or straight back into it? How about an F3..... or are you sick of the sight of anything Tornado-shaped?

Thanks very much DougC

Correct: I'm sick of Tornados. No more for me. Even after all that...look at the gaps between the wings and the fuselage...

I want to finish my fishing boat paper model, then something easy like a Tamiya Mosquito, Zero or maybe the Eduard F4F - ie something that doens't need research or aftermarket or whatever. I've also got an ongoing project rebuilding my old 1:12 McLaren MP4/6.

Absolutely wonderful model (paint shade difference? Have you seen the real things?!) & an excellent & thoroughly inspirational build thread to show us how you got such a superb result - thanks for taking the time to share!

Stupendous!

Don't forget to keep it clean.

Thanks! That's a great picture - shows the size of the fin really well. Also shows I missed an opportunity for a bit of thrust reverser bucket weathering below the rudder!

Like the new Avatar. A minature dr_gn in some old style heavy metal :)

Ha ha yup - RAF Coningsby airshow '82; I couldn't even see over the cockpit sides. I guess that's the nearest I ever got to being a pilot.

Oh go on, do an F3....... show us all how it's done!! I hear the Hasegawa kit is much more accurate....... :evil_laugh:

I don't think so - I've probably already got 51 shades of grey in my collection with this model alone!

Absolutely stunning.

That is what this site is all about, seeing a showcase like that can surely only inspire us fellow modellers and drive us all to keep improving and to maybe even try new techniques along the way.

Very well done mate. A great eye, perfect attention to detail and an admirable set of skills you have.

Have you thought about selling a few canopies on the bay? I am sure many of us have the Revell kit in our stash.

Phil.

Thanks a lot for that.

Re. selling canopies: I'm not much of a businessman, so I'd not really given it serious consideration (although it would be nice to get some return on my investment of PET-G sheet!). The issue is that every canopy I've made has some kind of flaw in it to some degree. OK, they were pretty much all better than the Revell offering, and there are no vacform ones currently available for this kit as far as I'm aware, but even so I'd be reluctant to ask for money for something that's not quite spot-on.

How about for the cost of postage & a donation to your favourite charity? As you say, even with 'flaws' (which are invisible in your piccies anyway!) yours are all better than the rubbish Revell ones!

Thats really nice.

I have plans to do one of these Dambuster ones too after reading the book "617: Going to war with todays dambusters" I got from the library.

Wanted to do a 1:48 dambuster but no one does the decals for that scale.

Also fancy doing one of the 1million hour liveried ones if I can find decals: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/tornado-ground-attack-jets-clock-up-one-million-flying-hours

Hi Doc,

Lovely, exacting build - All the time and effort paid dividends. The beautifully realistic paint finish and subdued weathering is spot on in my opinion.

Again the 1/72 scale bar has been moved up another notch (or two).

Enjoyed the all the innovations along the way.

MD.
