Caution Wake Turbulence
Hello, another GB newbie here (and P-38 newbie). Planning to build my Eduard 1/48th 'Pacific Lightnings' kit for this GB: Eduard Pacific Lightnings 1/48 Limited Edition by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr I've chosen to build it in the guise of Capt. Bob DeHaven's P-38L-5, part of the 7th FS, 49th FG based in Tacloban in October 1944. It looks like a nice kit, and it's positively packed with goodies (loads of resin, PE, mask etc). More pictures to follow. Cheers, Andrew

colin
Surely the resin fit can't be any worse than Aries
trickyrich
welcome aboard, and the first with an Eduard beasty as well, though I expect we will see quite a few of those! I would have used and Eduard model as a base for my build if they turned out an early version, but am very interested in seeing how these build up. Love the extra resin bit!! Nice scheme as well, good luck with the build.

Caution Wake Turbulence
Hello Folks, I've made a start on the resin cockpit. Having cleaned up the major components, I wanted to check the fit with the plastic. So far the news is good: Untitled by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr I have removed the coaming/glareshield from part D8, as per the instructions, and also thinned the sides and the upper lip to make room for the top of the panel: Untitled by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr Otherwise, I haven't needed to make any adjustments to the plastic yet, however, the fit of the upper and lower fuselage and nose sections does seem a little vague. dazdot
Yep Andrew I was thinking the same with mine. It seems an opportunity for a myriad of alignment problems if you get something wrong

Caution Wake Turbulence
Had an attack of AMS and ordered some more etch: http://www.eduard.com/store/Eduard/P-38J-upgrade-set-1-48.html I know it's for the J, but I'm hoping it should be mostly applicable to the L too...anyone know any different? Cheers, Andrew
dazdot
The academy kit is a j or l as I have the j tooling visually thete is little to distinguish them. Fill your boots
trickyrich
I don't know why but the cockpit area on Eduard models always seems to cause issues of some sort especially with the resin bits or PE instrument panels. Is the plastic in this kit new Eduard mouldings or someone else's?
Caution Wake Turbulence
The plastic is Academy. I know Chris Jephcott ended up using the Aires 'pit for his Lightnings over Europe build, but this tweaked version of the Eduard 'pit does seem better so far. Caution Wake Turbulence
The extra etch arrived yesterday and I've made a start on fitting some of it to the main gear bays. This is a combination of the kit etch and the upgrade set: Untitled by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr There are still some more bits to add (door retraction mechanisms etc), but it's already added a lot of detail. trickyrich
wow that will look nice when it's painted, definitely worthy it!
snapper_city
Looking good Andrew. I have test fitted my resin cockpit tub tonight and can see no issues. Those u/c bays look the business.
Caution Wake Turbulence
Thanks! I've been struggling a little with the pipes that are supposed to go in the bays - the plastic parts really don't seem to fit very well, so I thought about using some brass rod bent into a perhaps slightly more prototypical shape: P1000212 by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr This is just my first go - I think it still needs a little tweaking. Caution Wake Turbulence
Made a little more progress on the cockpit. First, some primer on the main components: P1000214 by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr and second, assembly of the PE seat belts: P1000213 by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr My first attempt at wrangling PE belts and I'm quite happy so far. Going to try and get some paint on the cockpit parts later. Cheers, Andrew
trickyrich
the detail in the resin cockpit is very crisp, it should look very nice when finished, the seat belts look great.
Caution Wake Turbulence
Yup, don't know how much of the detail will survive my attempts at painting though...

Caution Wake Turbulence
Hello, been a bit quiet on this build lately, not been near my workbench for a while for various reasons, but I do have some paint on parts of the cockpit and I've been tinkering a little tonight and cleaning up the resin wheels. I'm hoping for a more fulsome update soon. In the meantime does anyone have any tips on cockpit weathering - I'm a bit of a novice in this area! Thanks, Andrew
