Ejector pin marks filled and body constructed

Humbrol Acrylic 33 Matt Black & Humbrol Acrylic 85 Satin Coal Black for the load and Vallejo Model Color 178 70864 Natural Steel for the wagon interior

I used Vallejo Model Color 163 70868 Dark Seagreen for freight stock grey

I think it may be on the dark side and I have some touching up to do before I start on the decals, if I'm not happy with the grey after that they will be heavily weathered

Nice looking wagons Ratch, what did you use for the streaks?

Thanks, I weathered the trucks using Humbrol Enamel Wash AV210 Rust followed by Humbrol Powders AV0001 Black, AV0006 Iron Oxide, AV0007 Dark Earth and AV0008 Rust applied using various techniques; washes, streaking, stippling and sprinkling.

I've just seen this and looked through from the beginning. This is great work Ratch; what a super build project.

I did a small railway layout many years ago and found I enjoyed modelling of the scenery most of all, so think your idea is great, and may inspire me to have a go at something similar some time in the future.

I've decided to build this Brake Van...

412563250.jpg

but the sharp-eyed amongst you will have noticed that there are no wheels and one end of the compartment is missing. I had to get some replacement wheels from the railway section of the Model Shop and scratch-build the panel.

Attempting to copy the end panel in 40 thou Plastikard

The missing vacuum cylinder replaced with shaped runner

The replacement Hornby wheels run sweetly

I've decided to scratch a (very basic) interior

The interior was very basic in those things!  Don't forget a stove.

I've got one of those kits somewhere in the stash.  Not interested in building anything rail related, I just wanted one as I remember playing in one many years back.

It's all lined up (rather crudely) :evil_laugh:

I worked one of these from Warrington Bank Quay to Rugby on the back of the nuclear flask one night. I had the stove red hot with sparks showering behind the train as we trundled along at 45mph

I've crudely scratchbuilt a stove and the brake handle

I decided to use Humbrol Acrylic 160 German Camouflage Red Brown for the floorboards and had this happen

413007336.jpg

Disregard the white and maroon, they'll do for what I want. I often hear folks cry that their paint won't adhere to the plastic, that the paint is expelled by the plastic. That's exactly what appears to be happening here. With quick drying acrylic paints it takes not long and just a few coats to cover - a second coat.

413007337.jpg

Not quite right yet, but an improvement, so a third coat

413007338.jpg

Much better coverage, adequate for my job.

Well I don't seem to have much luck with railway kits lately. The Dapol kit has broken parts.

413354350.jpg

and a number of missing parts.
413354352.jpg

I have cut and bent a replacement sign plate.
413354353.jpg

and I'm reconstructing the missing part of the ladder.
413354354.jpg

All three tanks assembled, there will be a substitute screwdown valve on the grey Dapol one.
413354351.jpg

I then had to scratch two vacuum brake cylinders that were missing from the Type 3 box.

I've used the metal wheels supplied in the Dapol kit on the Type 4 boxing.
