Aeronavale F-8E (FN) & Super Etendard 1/48 Fini!

Recommended Posts

No further image updates on the F-8 but yesterday she had an all over coat of Winsor & Newtons finest so just need to get the seat and canopy sorted out.

so on with the SuE or maybe SEM!!!

I found a couple of images of quite well worn paint schemes, quite patchy in places, and so Im going to try that route out.......have applied the basic 2 Greys so far with some variation in places, but next I'll experiment on adding some more noticeable patches in a way that hopefully looks right and not OTT.

Gary, any issues with the inner flaps and the space available for them next to the fuse? Have heard bad things about that area and have done one myself with similar issues. Talking in reference to the Crusader.

Yes Kev BUT luckily for me I tend to over research during builds, and whilst checking some on-lines builds out I discovered this as an issue - I fitted the smaller of the two first so It would retain its shape (where it curves at the top) then simply filed down one side of the larger flap and it fitted fine.

Silly mistake time...............

When I came to decal I realised that I hadn't extended the darker Grey back far enough on the starboard side, allowing the light Grey MARINE wording to be positioned in the correct place. I decided (only realising when decals were wet and ready to slide on) to carry on anyway and applied it further up the fuselage, MISTAKE!!!! It just didnt look right and thats because it wasnt right!

Left over night and yesterday I sat for around 3 hours tempting the MARINE and National Roundal decals off with a soaked cotton bud, finally getting there.......

Re applied port side....................

and ready to get the airbrush out once more..........

Still doddering along but the heats been an additional challenge seeing as I spray in my loft..........drip, drip.

Just sprayed the air intake stripes, she's had a subtle oil wash but I still need to apply a wash to the inside of the wheel bay doors then out with the flat coat. Once thats done I intend to post shade using pastels as well.

Ive decided to finish her with air brakes open and flaps dropped but because that is a non parked config, I need to drop a pilot into her......anyway here she is lookig all shiny!

Do you put the Winsor and Newton flat coat through the airbrush or is it brushed on? It seems to give better results than the brand I am using at the moment.

Craig.

Thanks Craig -

Last weekend I was ready to matt cote my F-8 and realised I'd run out of Xtracrylics matt cote - knowing there was nowhere local to get it from I used Google and found a very good topic on here from 2010 about W&N Galeria, so after reading the general praise of it, I went out and bought a bottle (£4.75 in Hobbycraft) - mixes with water, cleans with water, easy to use and Ive used a ratio of 3 x water to 2 x medium to get a good (non dead flat) finish - I spray through the airbrush for best affect. Give it a go matey, you wont go back!
