How much of the original Fonderie 1/48 Halifax is still included in the Halton kit? I want to build the Halifax and was wondering if i could get the Halton and use a few bits ( as little as poss) from the Sanger kit...

Cananyone tell/show me the exact contents of theHalton?

There used to be pics of the halton parts up on a Russian site,

the Halton has a new fuselage, but most of the other bits still included. Do you have the Sanger kit? It has been mooted before, I don't know if anyone has ever asked Sanger if they couold just buy the fuselage and maybe the glazing parts, as that's basically the bits you need.

You do get all the glazing in the FM kit, but it's not great, and i don't know if the the FM cockpit parts would fit the Sanger fuselage. The FM clear parts aren't great either. Don't know about the Sanger parts.

I've never found a side by side comparison of the Sanger and FM kits, but do have both the FM Halton and Halifax.

I think it would be possible to convert the Halton fuselage back into a Halifax, but ti would be quite a job, BUT, if you don't have the Sanger kit, I'd say it worth a go, and then look at getting Sanger parts if it doesn't work out.

Bear in mind if you are looking at FM Halton plus a Sanger Halifax, and don't already have either, you might find it cheaper to ask if anyone has a FM Halifax kit for sale here, I got one from a member as I had it in my 'Wanted' post, for about what they cost when they were new.

Hi

I bought a cheap halton and then a part started contrail/sanger kit, with the same idea.

then i found a cheap halifax

I will try to get some comparism photos this weekend.

now i am trying to figure out how to make one with merlin engines, thinking of somehow adapting the lanc engines i have spare.

cheers

Thanks for that, was about to orser both, my plan was just to use the bomb door area and turrets from the sanger and all else would be FM..

The Halton fuselage is different, bulged cargo bay, nose and tail fairings, plus many different panel lines, but is the same basic shape, see link below for more on the Sanger kit.

that would be very very helpful Jerry.

May I request a lining up as much as possible a FM Halifax fuselage half with the Sanger half, to see how they match, and the FM Halifax fuselage half next to the FM Halton fuselage.

I don't think you'll be able to use much if indeed any of the Lanc engines for a Merlin Halifax, as they are very different cowlings. Again, might be worth asking Sanger for the Merlins engine sheet,

If you Sanger is a Mk III, does it have a wing sheet like this? The link below and pics above, by Tom Probert seem to be some of the very few online actually showing what's in the Sanger kit.

see here for more - http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234921266-sanger-vacform-148th-scale-handley-page-halifax-mkii/

A post recently by Mike did say Sanger have joined the forum, but I've not seen any posts by, I assume, Gerald as yet, and I have no idea how amenable or not he is to selling parts.

I do know some of the kits are shockers, like the Stirling, which I have, only as it was cheap, and see Mike's long stalled build as well http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/18153-sanger-148-stirling/

, but a chap on Hyperscale, Mark Jahnsen has built up a few other and they look decent.

you need to get the picture URL and paste that into the 'Image' box in the browser, hover the mouse along the bar if in doubt

You can pics out of Flickr, if you view page source, and look through all the code, find 'main photo is hidden' and you get this

https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7631/16338343334_66b071d517.jpg

that's what I pasted into the image box, though you should be able to get the image code yourself from your own Flickr account....any, to ease the thread, I have taken the liberty of doing this...

Sanger metal top, FM resin and metal bottom

Sanger vac

FM Halifax

FM Halton

Interestingly the Sanger vac looks much deeper in the nose, another reason to see how they line up, though which is correct, or less incorrect, I do not know!

One other point for Mark, IIRC the FM Halton still has the bomb bay roof and bomb bay doors, though a friend who but a Halton with a clear nose, which means trimming the nose of the Halton fuse, found it did not line up well!

I presume in the transparencies that the Sanger are top (no frame lines) and FM below.

As for Wellington engines, and installations, I'd hope for Graham Boak or John Adams to read this and add their opinions.

Hi

Well i just roughly compared my Wellington merlin engines to the photos,

making them the same scale, and they match the sanger ones for shape/outline.

So its good enough for me to use these as a basis for my future conversion i think

Cheers

Jerry
