Mustang GR 2/33 Savoie France 1945

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon all

Let me present you another entry in this Gb : the Mustang in the recco version used by the Groupe de reconnaissance 2/33 Savoie during the last months of the war and until 1953 ..

To replace the Spitfire of the GR 2/33 Savoie The Armée de l'air received in January 1945 from the Us depots in the Uk around 27 Mustang of various version B C D and even a K model , these aircraft were equipped with cameras for aerial reconnaissance hence the designation F6 but they were also equipped with guns in case they met german fighters ..

The pilots said that the Mustang was the best tactical reconnaissance aircraft in 1944-1945 they also praised it for its comfort , range and the reliability of the K22 (the photo camera that equipped the F6 ) .. Only 2 aircraft were lost due to ennemy aircraft ..

After the end of the war they continue in the Recconnaissance role and were only retired in 1953 ..

I am going to build the Academy model to represent this model

Started one of this for the 1st Mustang GB waaay back, must get around to finishing it sometime.

Anyway, great subject choice, again something familiar but different.

Looking forward to see how this one turns out.

You beat me on this one...

Perfect, then I don't have to start mine when the kit and decals arrive.

I got my decals delivered from England yesterday and according to UPS the Academy F-6C is in Krakow at the moment :coolio:

Never saw a Razorback with the D style fin fillet-

It's quite common, it used to be said that was one of the features that differentiated a B from a C but of course that's been debunked for quite some time now.

You see both B's & C's with this modification - obviously done to improve directional stability.

Personally, I prefer the look of the B/C with this mod.

Hi Paul

I am just 49 and I still have some years of work before I can think to retire but sometimes I manage to build quickly when things go as I plan ..

Today I managed to fix wings to the fuselage on both kits ..
