Giorgio N
Interesting indeed ! Pity however that does not cut metals, would have been nice to be able to cut through brass. For many applications this is a better material than plastics. At the same time there are other cheaper ways to cut plastic sheets
Colin W
Pretty cool, shame they dont say if it will cut brass.
Fatcawthorne
You could always look at the bargain basement end of the market where similar spec machines are available for about £350 on eBay (excluding customs charges). I have a cheap Chinese 60w machine and that has proved as reliable as can be expected for the price paid. Ok the quality of the finished work is not as good as a European/US "brand", but it can still do what it says on the tin! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CO2-LASER-ENGRAVING-MACHINE-40W-LASER-TUBE-HIGH-SPEED-MOSHIDRAW-SOFTWARE-POPULAR-/111347312782?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19ecd1288e There are also bargain basement milling/engraving machines that with carbide parallel cutters could cut brass easily enough. My engraving machines are far higher spec than the cheap Chinese ones on eBay but from my experience with the cheap Chinese Laser engraver/cutter I wouldn't baulk at one if that was my only option. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3020T-CNC-ROUTER-ENGRAVING-DRILLING-MILLING-3020T-ENGRAVER-COVER-PLATES-MACHINE-/190566917872?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c5eac66f0 Edited March 23, 2015 by Fatcawthorne
Hutch
Pretty cool, shame they dont say if it will cut brass. It's only rated at 40W so the answer would be no...... We have a 60W laser cutter in my workshop (school DT department) and we are limited to plastics and certain woods. It would probably be able to etch the surface of anodised Aluminium to make name plates but as far as metal goes that would be it. However, it might etch the surface of brass (a small fraction of a mm) but without trying I'm not sure. Hutch
