Navy Bird
This is really looking good, Tony. It looks so good, I can't see ever calling it a "Halibag." It's too refined and beautiful a thing for that. Halifax it must be! Cheers, Bill
tonyot
Cheers Bill, Glad you like it mate and so glad to hear that the treatment appears to be doing the trick! Here is another quick update; After the matt (well egg shell!) varnish the panel lines were run over with a scalpel and then a watercolour wash was applied. The Dowty undercarriage legs for the Mk.V variant were also fitted along with the larger Freightdog wheels,.......unfortunately the Revell Dowty parts don`t appear to have the correct brackets for attaching the retraction arms and these just fit where they touch! The Freightdog props also had their tips masked off prior to receiving some Humbrol Trainer Yellow; So tonight I`ll be removing the wash and sorting out the exhaust streaks using dry brushed enamels and MiG pigment powders, Cheers for now, Tony PS- The lower part of the left rudder broke off and I`m sure that I put it into the box but it hasn`t shown up yet,....not to worry I have a spare! Ascoteer
Yes Monica was a tail warning radar,.....the antenna projects from the section underneath the tail turret,.....I`ll add it later. After examining downed bombers fitted with Monica the Luftwaffe developed a passive homer (Flensburgh?) which could be carried by night fighters and lead them directly to a bomber and caused the loss of a number of aircraft. Indeed it operated in the P-Band (300 MHz) between VHF and UHF. The American version was called 'Archie' and, strangely enough it was used as the RADALT (Radar Altimeter) for the Little Boy atomic bomb. Tony you are quite correct the Geman homer was called Flensburg FuG 227. It didn't directly home on to the Monica transmission but the sub-harmonics thereof. Halibag is looking good BTW.

Just imagine what a surprise that would have been for a Flensburg-equipped nightfighter!

tonyot
Thanks again folks, Yes General the the decals were quite `sporting' to say the least and I wouldn`t say `master modeller' Jonny,.....far from it in fact,......just a bodger who sometimes gets lucky!! I forgot to photograph the undersides to show the bomb bay had some bomb racks from the Airfix Lancaster fitted,..oh well! Cheers Tony

tonyot
I have just dashed (yeah right as if!) off and taken one; Apparently the bubbles under the fuselage were left over from the earlier configuration when these covered the windows in the nose and they found a better use for them checking for night fighters underneath! TTFN,,... Tony PPS- Yes I know Graham,.......they should be three abreast,...but they just won`t fit! I`ve even seen a pic of a Halibag which had bombs four abreast!
