Hiya Folks,

Here is the Halibag after the main scheme has been applied,.....it just needs a bit of touching up where the paint has leaked under the masking tape,...a common problem when brush painting! The black was applied by rattle can spray but the top camouflage was brush painted using Humbrol enamel Dark Earth and Polly Scale Dark Green;

Once it has been touched up I`ll apply some Humbrol enamel gloss varnish and then get on with the decals,

Cheers for now,

Tony

Cheers Radleigh, Vesa and Chaddy,

The gloss varnish has dried quite quickly and I`m hoping to get the decals on this evening,...fingers crossed,

Tony

I see you haven't got the hang of this brush painting malarkey yet Tony......... :gobsmacked: !!!!!

If I painted pure water, I'd still leave brush marks.

Seriously though, that finish is superb. I can't wait to see it finished.

Hi Tony,

Very glad to see this under way again. Just to be on the safe side, and before you put a Messier U/C on it, because you've not found a photo beyond the nose area, I should post this photo showing that London's Revenge is a B.V

In fact I'm having trouble putting a photo into this post, so try Kits-World, which does this aircraft as well - http://www.kitsworld.co.uk/index.php?CATEGORY=5&SUB=5

Not sure that I've added a live link, but if not, cut and paste into your browser.

Looking forward to the finished result,

Matt

Cheers lads,

Thanks for the heads up Matt,.....I have a few photos of this Halibag in my reference material including the one which you mention that proves that it was definitely a B.V with the Dowty undercarriage so not to worry,.......it also shows the letter L on the u/c which confirms the code. Although I have not posted all of these pics on the thread here, thanks to the link which you gave me here is the photo,..cheers

I didn`t manage to do the decals last night so I`ll settle down and watch the rugby today with a bowl of water and a tray!

All the best

Tony

Edit- Sorry Matt I`ve gone back through the thread and realised why you decided to warn me about it being a Mk.V,...so thanks again for that!.....I`d not made it clear and the title didn`t help, so I`ve changed it to Mk.V! It had been titled Mk.II because I was using Revell`s Mk.II kit but I can see where the confusion came from!

A bit late in the game for this, but maybe someone would like to see it.

Cheers Jim and thanks for the artwork from the Hikoki book Chris,...I have that book and saw the drawing but don`t think that the mid upper turret,H2S radome or late fins are correct for this particular aircraft, although the quality of the painting itself is superb.

Decals are going on now while watching the All Black v France match! I didn`t get much done during the Springbok v Taff match as it was just too good to do anything else!

Cheers

That looks more like it Chris,...cheers for that. I`m not sure about the fuel jettison pipes under the wings so I`d better double check that as well as the Monica antenna under the rear turret!

For some reason I thought that the bomb log was under the side windows and not above but then I`ve looked at so many blinking Halifax pics in the last few days that I`ll have to go back and crunch the books again to double check.

All the best

Tony

Update-

-Monica,...yes!

-Fuel Dump Pipes- no!

Cheers Chris and Ed,

Ed- Are your Aeroclub engines the quite old radiator inserts intended for the Matchbox kit or are they the recent conversion set including the entire nacelles and propellers released by John for the Revell kit? I`m not sure whether John has any of his conversion kits left but they are definitely comprehensive and more accurate, I`ve got two sets and will be making an Airborne Forces Halibag A.Mk.V with one using John`s old white metal 4 bladed props and probably an Airfix Airborne Jeep in the bomb bay, as dropped to the SAS in France, plus another Tollerton fairing jobbie, this time from 10 Sqn.

Cheers

Chris

Thanks for jogging my memory Chris and for saving me having to go through the books yet again!! That pic is a corker!

Ed- `Revell POS',......I like that,......but in their defence the fuselage is fantastic, they have just let themselves down with the rest and at least it forms the basis of a decent Halifax! I`m looking forward to getting stuck into my Aeroclub conversion sets!

Cheers

Hiya Folks,

Well I`ve managed to get the decals on at last. The Sly Decals nose art was used but had to be cut about and altered a bit including the Lions wings while the `London`s Pride' title is in the wrong font! The roundels and fin flashes came from the kit and the red codes and serial came from an old set of Modeldecals. Unfortunately the kit roundels have a slight white edge along one side so I`ll need to rectify this. Also the `Turner' part of Lana Turner`s signature needs to be overpainted black as per the original, seen in the photo that Chris posted. The bomb log came from another option on the Sky Decals set;

It is hard to find a photo of the right hand side of a Halifax Mk.V from this unit but I did find one which had crashed and like most other Canadian Halibag units at this time it had the sqn codes behind the roundel, so this is what I went for. I only found one other pic and that was of a Mk.III which had the codes in front of the roundel;

So the next step will be to add some matt varnish and weather the model along with finishing off the turrets and painting the Quickboost resin exhausts, I also need to find a couple of clear observation bubbles for the underside of the nose and the rear fuselage.

Cheers for now,

Tony

Thank you both,

The first coat of varnish has been brushed on but has dried more like eggshell,...urghh!

Yes Monica was a tail warning radar,.....the antenna projects from the section underneath the tail turret,.....I`ll add it later. After examining downed bombers fitted with Monica the Luftwaffe developed a passive homer (Flensburgh?) which could be carried by night fighters and lead them directly to a bomber and caused the loss of a number of aircraft. When the RAF realised this after a Ju88 fitted with this equipment was captured, then Monica was removed during the summer of 1944.

Cheers

Tony
