Whilst we're watching paint dry, here is an Anglo - French joke, courtesy of 06/24 junior

Two cats are having a boat race. One is called "one two three" and the other is called "une deux trois". Which cat won the race?

One two three, 'cos une deux trois quatre cinq...

Apologies to Ced for the lack of double entendres

Good one Jon!

But come now*, a cat joke and no double entendres? Mrs Slocum** would be disappointed.

*Score 1

** I think that's really how you spell it and will not be claiming a further point. Aha, fooled you!

Edit: for the uninitiated here she is http://youtu.be/vRJlItzalJY.

And it's 'Slocombe', I was wrong, score 2.

Fantastic stuff!

I too am particularly looking forward to the R4. Mine was dark metallic green with tan vinyl seats. The chassis and floor were a sort of rusty brown colour......

The colour looks much better in the flesh, but clearly I didn't thin the paint sufficiently, and/or used too high a pressure as it has atomised and dried before laying down a gloss on the surface. Nonetheless, I think it is useable, if I leave it for a good wee while to fully cure, and then polish and clear coat it I think it will be ok. I need to mask for the black panels, but I'm away on business tomorrow which will avoid undue impatience on my part!

We were talking of green R4s earlier, well this evening this monstrosity popped up in my Instagram feed. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Loch Ness Fourgonette

Go on Jon, you know you want to :wicked: - that's one freaky fifth wheel!

Apologies for the lack of updates mes amis, it's been a challenging few days at work. And the Delage Red had dried to a texture and finish I can best describe as sandpaper. Polishing hasn't seemed to make a difference, despite considerable effort. Eventually tonight I gave up and all red parts are sitting in a bath of oven cleaner overnight. Thsi is a shame, the colour was lovely, but I could never have been content with the finish.

My thoughts now are to brush or airbursh the Revell purpurrot suggested in the instructions, and perhaps see if I can add a very thin layer of the true delage red afterwards.

Sorry to hear about the Delage Red. You are definitely making the right call to strip it off and start again if you are not happy with it :thumbsup2:

Getting rid of the paint is turning out to be harder than getting it on. Two types of oven cleaner and raw alcohol and i'm still struggling.

A pause to regroup is needed methinks, and perhaps I am in the market for a replacement kit off eBay, keep the chassi work I've done to date but ahve a fresh go at the bodywork. I'll sleep on it.

Well it's not been good news. A weekend trying to remove paint (unsuccessfully) is bad for modelling enthusiasm. Coming on top of a tough week at work I'm less than chuffed at the moment. Will need to source a cheap replacement kit or ditch the basic deuche from the build. And being ticked off means I daren't touch anything else for fear of grumpiness induced errors. So an evening of Bluestone 42, Poldark and the battle of Talavera (not televised!) is in order.

Smudge's photo was just the KUTA I needed to get back on track. So I've had a go at bending up a seat frame, this is very much a sacrificial first attempt but I hope it's looking ok. I know the frame should bend back at the top, added after the photos were taken

Jon,

I'm glad you've regained your impetus after your setback.

What are you using for the tubular frame?

I think I will only model one seat, photos seem inconclusive, in that many vans had two (plus a bench seat behind) but some seem to have had only one. One is a lot less modelling effort so it seems favourite just now!

Well tonight I binned the Revell bodyshell, it really was past saving. Cathartic moment and all that.

The frame is bent up from florists wire, 18ga. in this case. I might try again with brass rid, biut the 0.7mm I have to hand seems a bit thin. In the absence of drawings or dimensions this is all guesstimated anyway!

Bumped into a replacement Charleston this morning, currently getting some paint down, pictures to follow. Not sure the new paint is even close to the right colour, but, touch wood, it's going on better.
