There were a couple superlative adjectives deployed in that comment G.  Not harmed as such; but definitely used…

Useful to avoid being shot in the ar*e tho’ :D   Back in the days when real men flew loooow :rofl2:

but I think I can see my old workplace at the back of the airfield, and Heanton Hill further in the background.  I used to run up and down that at dinner time for some odd reason.   Must have been mad.

Must have been young… :D

Where was the old workplace?

Building Blackbird in 1:72 scale is very easy... 😁

Ha, trying to build one as good as yours ain’t easy Serkan; least ways, not for mere mortals ;)

Need to follow on with a Jag as soon as these are done, no leaving us with a void in our lives!

S’pect I’ll do T-bird and a single seater sooner or later.  Prob not next tho’.  Might take a break from 1/72 and give the eyes a rest…

I’m sorry to say there’s no progress to report

Has been some modelling; but it’s been of the trying to rectify c*ck up type.

May I present one c*ck up?

If anyone has found the missing half of the etch rear IP, would they kindly return it?

It probably got ripped off when I removed the masking.  But it defeated my efforts to find it.  Wasn’t stuck to the masking tape, in the cockpit, on the desk or stuck to my slippers.  Hey ho…

Luckily there’s no dials on that half of the rear IP.  So a fix was possible.

0.2mm Plastic card:

Painted to match:

Populated with some detail:

A251D411-7C06-4CFB-9B44-6941FA3AD8C4

Which was cut from some spare etch (an Airwaves set IIRC;  for the Revell Hawk I think, as it's the wrong overall shape for mine):

BA568A95-A715-4036-AC7A-66758EAAF32A

Should pass muster once it’s hidden in shade under the rear coaming.

Wot a pain.  Still, could’ve been worse.

No-one is mentioning the possible use of a paid saboteur here in order to prolong the build even further.

You'll find that piece of IP tomorrow.  Then, you'll have the angst of which is better, original or the replacement...

Didn’t.  Not saying which was better neither ;)

Waste of money.  It’s a self-prolonging thread.  (Why does that phrase sound a bit orf?) :D

TWU Hawk can rest a bit after that heady dash of the last week or two.

Haven’t really got any progress to post.  So in lieu of that a nice piccie of a pre-wings young Fritag wobbling about in close formation in a Valley Hawk.

It’s not even the aircraft I’m modelling.  No excuse at all really

What a dazzling smile tho’ :rofl2:

Actually.  I’ve just done a delicate task on Valley Hawk.

Having faired the windscreens in so carefully, I realised that they didn’t look quite right without some sort of panel line demarcating the windcreen and the fuselage.

Cue careful (very) use of the Tamiya scriber.

Results later; once I’ve made the paint good.

I know; not really worth a post or your time reading it was it.  Sorry.  But hey.

Been following closely and liking it very much of course. Nice to see the air-air shot of 312 and a reminder that apart from the Reds these have now sadly gone from the UK inventory. So this pair will be a top-notch tribute to a great aeroplane when they're done.

If that was an Airwaves IP you used, it was not only the wrong shape for the kit of the Hawk tou used but most likely the wrong shape for any kit of the Hawk, past, present or future! Good save though.

More masking in my modelling life this weekend; couldn’t put off doing the Valley Hawk for ever…

So, as to the red. Using this, so that it’s the same colour as the JPs and Chippie.

414FE143-30D1-4021-B7B4-664DF2ABBEF2

Weirdly thick paint; but thinned with Tamiya X20A at something like two-thirds or 75% thinner to paint, it airbrushes really nicely.

It doesn’t cover well tho’, so the plan is to first lay down a light coat of Tamiya Red X-7 first.

Masked (pain) and Tamiya’d.

52A83811-2A55-42E8-B6DB-1EF0364F8DC8

Revelled.  Gorgeous colour.

1CF6759D-C50D-4677-9DA7-17E1E31EFA21

Next bit of unmasking is a bit nerve racking.  Cue bleeds and paint lifts etc?

FD064809-A33B-4FC5-8238-EE9248276B9F

37CA818D-476F-434C-9198-436431DC04A5

139C0C13-12BC-4E42-A049-EB07FBA1C77A

6C5EBA3D-0D29-4FA2-B183-B86BC1EEA7C5

2634384F-6609-41FA-AF20-F325BC27DB2B

I’ll take that.  No bleeds.  No lifts.  Decent line; not exquisite but decent.

Needs to harden and then fine scrutiny and any minor tidy up needed.

Looks like a toy at the mo - that’ll need work.

Wow, we have red and white!

The paint has gone on superbly, and the Revell shade of red looks absolutely spot on to my eyes.

All the piccies look good Steve, but this one does it for me ........

That subtle double curve demarcation between red and white is so "early RAF Hawk Trainer". Excellent masking IMHO 👍

Hai! I thought that last lot of pictures looked familiar: fired up Flickr on the tablet earlier and these were on the front page. And yes, my first thought was that looks like/it can't be/it is! 😁

You tread a very fine (demarcation) line indeed; great masking Steve.
