While true for yardwork, I would counter with a quote from one of your better class of Edwards, Edward Luttwak:

"[E]verything that we value in human life is within the realm of inefficiency—love, family, attachment, community, culture, old habits, comfortable old shoes."

Your flappery is a bit nice  sublime Fritag, just as well, otherwise it wouldn't match the rest of them. :)

Maybe it's just me, but the more I see of that badge on the fin of 176, the more convinced I become that it'd look better with a camel in it, behind the tree, in front of the pyramid. ;) :D

Very subtle weathering; when I saw the two pictures on my phone, I thought “Uh?” But when I put the pics up on the PC monitor, I thought “Perfect!”

TWU Hawk has had its weathering now.

Some Flory wash around then moveable surfaces  and some oil staining - like Valley Hawk - maybe a tad heavier.

And it also had my version of oil-dotting.

To my eyes a green/grey camo finish often has something of a patchy look; whether as a result of rain or other staining or just uneven light reflection.  So the idea is to break up the solid block of colour.  Stage 1 was the marbling pre-paint and Stage 2  is the oil dotting.

Some dry dots of light grey and ‘starship filth’.  Aiming for a random effect with the dots sufficiently spaced apart so that they’ll not end up getting mixed together.  Working in sections.

Then stippled to thin, spread and remove the excess.  The aim is to leave a subtly altered base colour and get that patchy look . The grey panel behind the cockpit and above the roundel have been done (probably won’t be able to see it on a mobile size screen).

And here she is at the mo; after a flat coat.

I’m pleased with the look, aiming for 1980’s ‘used’ - but not 1940’s ‘wrecked’ ;)  It’s a subjective thing of course, so do feel free to disagree; I shan’t be offended :D

Not a huge amount to do now.

Adour jet pipes primed with Tamiya gloss black followed by Alclad Aluminium:

And now a kit of parts to finish em off with.

And some printed undercarriage doors to finish painting:

And a couple of these:

And I've started to draw up the various aerials in Fusion.

And that’ll be more or less it…

By 'eck that's nice, Steve.

They're both exquisite but it feels like you could just climb into the TWU Hawk and start her up.

I'd be delighted to even approach to this level of quality, if I had the advantage of working in 1/32 scale.

At 1/72 scale - no way, not even close.

I can't decide which of the two schemes is my favourite  👍

Yes they are sir.  Top views indeed.

I have to admit to preferring the camo version over the Valley version. More menacing.  More military'ish.

I can't wait to see the topping on the cake when those canopies go on.

I'm with Alan here. Top job on the weathering, IMO spot on for that 1980's used look you mentioned! :worthy:

Superbly restrained weathering on both aircraft - just enough to add that indefinable breath of life and transform beautifully built models into convincing replicas of the real thing

Absolute perfection - weathering is just right for the scale and really looks the part. I'm looking forward to the big reveal!

As others have said, the weathering is fantastic. Not enough that your eyes pick up on anything but unquestionably, it just looks more real. Just some subtle, indefinable 'texture'. That clean but real look is so hard to achieve, I'll be referring back to this a lot!

Nice work Fritag. I hesitate to ask and it is probably extremely foolish of me to but dare we expect to see a completed Fritag build or two at Telford next year?

I don’t use the oil dot weathering on my builds but you may be making a convert out of me with these two Hawks.  What I find infuriating inspirational about your build is that you don’t seem to have a weakness - construction, 3D design/printing, painting, weathering all seem to be taken well in stride.  It’s bloody annoying.

Words many of us have waited a long time to hear ........ err, I probably mean see. Worth the wait of course!

Well impressed with the TWU Hawks weathering, and those last bits and bobs look exqusite as they await their final placement. 👏

Well, I can't think of anything to add to the learned posters above, so I'll just sit here quietly nodding in agreement :nodding:

Superb weathering on both, they both look lovely, I haven't used the oil dot filtering for ages but love the warm and cold variations you can achieve with it, the effect of the filters is subtle and wonderful.

Great work
