Luis Alfonso
Hi Silver Fox!!! Congratulations!!! You have done a nice job with this one and Hope to have more pics soon as you advertised, and if possible more details about the conversion you have used.....just with the one pic you posted here, is enough to make me dream about this nice job you did on this little masterpiece to try to replicate it !!!! Thank you very much for sharing, Cheers, Luis Alfonso

ivand
Vraiment très beau! Just one detail: I don't think (but I might be mistaken) that the RF-84G flew with a modified "sergent Fletcher" "recce" tank on one side and a "normal" F-84 tank on the other. I've always wondered why Model Art only offered the one tank - you still have to rob a T-33 kit for the other!

You may well be right though Jean-Pierre was adamant they flew in this asymetrical matter. The only photo I could find of the machine in question http://www.millionmonkeytheater.com/f84gpics/51-10241.jpg doesn't show the starboard tank. Thanks for taking an interest I hope we find some proof one way or another.
ivand
Well, unfortunately he doesn't cite any sources, but here's a guy who replicated a T-33 tank for this build. He also thinks the nose of the plane should be red, not blue, but then he doesn't seem to know the reinforcing tape on the canopy should be white, not aluminium...: http://aviapassionmaquette.free.fr/Aviapassion%20Maquette%20montage%20RF84G%20THUNDERJET.html
Luis Alfonso
Hi Friends: I have been watching in my papers and fortunately found a Compendium made by Nils Mathisrud with the help of other freinds and modeling pals liek Per Einar Janssenn, a friend of mine, for Vingtor Decals of Norway about the RF84E variant peculiar to the RNoAF machines, and they say they used two Fletcher Tanks, and mention that there were some F84E/G produced with this type of tanks, you can download this COMPENDIUM HERE: http://vingtor.net/ When you willbe in the page, THEN (1) CLICK IN DOWNLOADS AND THEN (2) CLICK AGAIN IN THE RED LETTERS TO OPEN THE ARCHIVE AND FINALLY (3) when is open, you will SAVE AS the name you have chosen for. I was thinking that theplane could have been in French Air Force with two tanks, as they were the RDAF and Yugoslav RF84G variants they have used, but anyway, this one likes me that assimetrical way. IF SOMEONE have more info everybody here will win in knowledge. Hope my little imput could help. Luis Alfonso
HI Friends: Another source of interest about French Air Force Thunderjets: http://avions-de-la-guerre-d-algerie.over-blog.com/article-147-republic-f-84-e-et-g-thunderjet-fran-ais-121143309.html Cheers!!! Silver Fox
I'm away from my references today, but I do know there is a reference book quoted in the ModelArt instruction. Looking at the photo I refered to the nose could be either red or blue, but I think it is too light for red if they used the same colour as the roundel. As to the Norwegian machine, they were E models and had Fletcher tanks on both sides. Thank you for the website Luis, very inspiring, also one of the colour profiles is of the fighter bomber version I did a few years ago. Yes, the lack of a second tank from MA is a mystery, as you would have to rob a second quite rare kit for one.
ivand
Thank you for the information, Luis! "Les avions de la guerre d'Algérie" is indeed a very interesting blog about the aircraft of the French post-war air force and "aéronavale". Interestingly, the third profile on that page is the aircraft Silver Fox has built, and it is described as: "Appareil muni d'une caméra sous le nez et d'un bidon reco" which translates as "aircraft fitted with a camera under the nose and a recce tank" - which would confirm the asymmetric configuration. Silver Fox
Ivand, regarding 33-DO, 51-10670, that machine is another option on the ModelArt Sheet, though the instructions show it without the tank but with the belly camera. It looks like I need to repaint the nose band a lighter shade of blue. At least one of the photos on that blog seem to show a Fletcher tank on the starboard wing though on an EC3 machine. Luis Alfonso
Hi Silver Fox, Ivand and all here: Check first what colour is the one used in the nose, as many of the references don't show freshly painted machines but used ones, and remember that colours might be lighted by exposition to the environmental elements so, this machine you depicted would have had once at least a colour like the one you used in her. As i have seen, the very old Thunderjet seem to have many many chances to do nice conversion jobs as the other recon variants with the nose cameras too, so with plenty of kits like the Hobby Boss, Heller, Tamiya and other derivatives, we could have many kits to build....and also, if anyone could have and can share some F84G pics or reference with the Fletcher Tanks (not only recon variants), this stuff is welcome!!! Luis Alfonso
I tried to go to the Vingtor site to download the PDF, but it keeps saying the webpage cannot be displayed. Does anybody have that RF-84E document, who could send it to me at lengesath@cox.net ? Larry Hi Larry: I was fortunate to download the book from Vigtor site so let me see in my digital books where I have it, and as soon as possible with a great pleasure I will send it to your mail.
