Wee Beastie Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 (edited) This is my next build, the AZ Model Saab J-29 Flygande Tunnan (Flying Barrel) in 1/48. I'm going to convert it to the J-29C reconnaissance version. After-market items are Maestro Models PE details set, Maestro Models Resin Recce conversion set with vac-formed canopy, and a set of alternative decals from Print Scale. The kit itself has the usual grey plastic, plus resin cockpit detail, wheels and intake, plus a PE instrument panel. It looks like a simple kit to assemble (who said famous last words!!?), and of an slightly unusual aircraft. Edited March 8, 2015 by Wee Beastie 5
exdraken Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 (edited) good luck! looking forward to your model, but don't assume this will be an easy project! if you need more information on the kit and how to best build it, searchhere on BM! some good tipps and tricks to find! Wee Beastie Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 good luck! looking forward to your model, but don't assume this will be an easy project! if you need more information on the kit and how to best build it, searchhere on BM! some good tipps and tricks to find! No assumptions made, hence saying it "looks" simple. All part of the fun I agree too, that BM is a fantastic resource
Wee Beastie Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 Nice bit of PE cockpit detail, courtesy of the Maestro Models detail set. 1
geedubelyer Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 (edited) The Tunnan is such a charismatic aircraft. I look forward to seeing how this project develops. Edited April 25, 2015 by geedubelyer 1

Wee Beastie Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 A long overdue update. Cut off the original nose, and fitted the recce nose. Primer on, colouring done. The underside is aluminium. Then a couple of light coats of clear, and applied the decals. Hint:- Should you wish to attempt this kit, be prepared. Have plenty of filler handy (and patience too!). Whilst there are not many parts, said parts do not go together well. There are rumours of some alternative 1/48 Tunnan's coming through in time (Hobby Boss & Pilot-Replicas). May build one of these, just to compare. All primed up On with the olive green and aluminium Clear coat, and then the decals applied 4
exdraken Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 nice end very rarely seen scheme and version! hat kit is definitely a challenge!
