revell 1/24 Ferrari 612 gt1 prototype

Recommended Posts

So i bought a revell ferrari 612 as part of a bulk buy a couple of months ago and honestly I only got it because of the other cars it came with so from then i was stuck for an idea of what to do with this car as i rate it as one of the ugliest ferraris ever made, so ther i am trawling the Web for an idea for an unrelated project and a 612 race car by some make i have never seen before popped up, the there was my solution to my problem and here is what i have done so far today (also please bear in mind I haven't done any modelling for about 3 weeks as we moved house so not every thing is set up as of yet)

The box of the world's ugliest car

The body with the rear bumper glued on

And here is where i have started with the mods

And also the bonnet is being changed from stock

Also just so i dont forget one of these has been purchased from autosportmodels

I am hoping for this to progess quite quickly but i suspect like some of my recent builds this will stall and i will move on to something else

A bit more done for today and really there's not much left to do on the body side

I had to fill in the number plate area and the parking sensors

I also cut out a front brake cooling duct

20150307_153610_zps4yxyrf3u.jpg

The diffuser has been started but i will make it more complex i just needed a basic one to see how it looked

20150307_151538_zpsrxmkx38u.jpg

And the front splitter has been completed

The interior will be started tonight and i will look into makeing the diffuser more pretty

Thanks pizzwizz it's just a rattle can and I must say I was quite pleased with how well it went on as normally I get really bad results with cans

So on with the build

While the paint cures up i have pushed on with the interior

It looks rough at the moment but there is alot more to be added here

20150316_184122_zpsrvlkoxxa.jpg

I cant for the life of me understand why revell thought it would be a good idea to make the 2 parts for the dash in 2 colours but as with the rest of the car o have modded it slightly by taking off the 2 furthest out air con outlets and the bit where the cd player is will have a race screen put over it

20150316_184136_zps2ae24icl.jpg

The door inners have been modified aswell, i took all the un needed bits off and filled the recess with putty so it will be a flat surface to work off of

20150316_184147_zpshieqstew.jpg

Right now most of above is being primed so i have made a start to the engine and running gear so this should progress really quick now

A bit more done over the last couple of days

The engine before the top bit goes on

20150318_175047_zpsjubewyf1.jpg

Now its finished

20150318_175124_zpsxfcfadgi.jpg

The gear box

20150318_175219_zpsq847v3go.jpg

The rear wheel arch, the only reason i show this is because its been sprayed with zeros semi gloss black and i am very pleased with how it works and i will be using it again

20150318_175146_zpsf80xsvnu.jpg

I need to grind all the tread off the tyres so i can have slicks

20150318_175209_zpskujiaejm.jpg

And i have removed all the nasty chrome plating off most off the bits

A little more done to this car

The interior is very black but once the shell is on no one will ever see it

20150320_151845_zpsabz20yl3.jpg

So now for a small bit of bad news, the body was sprayed with tamiya red and after a few email i was assured that zeros clear would be fine over it so i went ahead a used my normal method with zeros paint and it ate the decals and the red paint so i needs to be stripped and redone but this time with only zeros paint

Right so 5he body has been stripped and has now been painted with zeros paint though out just so there is no issues

Here's the body before the clear coat

Now I just need to clear it and it shouldn't be long before I can get this off my bench

Hi Shaun,

great work so far!In fact the "Scaglietti"'s a barge and even if I wouldn't call it the ugliest Ferrari ever made (it's getting close anyway!),I think that it's been a real commercial flop;it's rare to see a 12-cylinder Ferrari costing $220k when new turning into such a bargain....specimens in good nick would set you back £35k and ONLY BECAUSE now the Ferrari market's going up ,until a few months ago £28k would have brought home a very nice (condition-wise) 612!

Can't wait to see it finished!

Cheers

Manu
