Thunderbirds are Go!

Today's the day, 5pm this evening to be exact, however before that I want to take you back 50 years to the days when that memorable music would accompany sliding pilots, pods on a track, folding palm trees and Virgil Tracy on the launch ramp with...

This is the Imai 10" Thunderbird 2 with all toy-like attributes removed, with cockpit and inspection windows opened up and a base built up from the Airfix Pontoon bridge, balsa, cotton wool (of course!), expanded polystyrene insulation panel, random bits and bobs plus some Railway modeller palm trees and a battery box and associated electricals from Maplin.

The photos don't show it very well but the cockpit is lit as well as the exhaust being illuminated by flickering yellow and red LEDs.

Thunderbirds Mole by Aoshmia

This kit is "nominally" 1:72 scale. This was built pretty much ot of the box, leaving out most of the motorized parts. The Screw was stripped of its chrome plating and repainted with Alcad II Aluminium. Other paints are all Tamiya Acrylics, along with MiG washes and weathering pastels. Base was built using "claycrete" on an old picture frame with rubble made from various bits of scrap plastic rod, beam, strip and some metal mesh cut and painted appropriately.
