SimonL
After my last model, I thought I should return to the shelf of doom to see if I could finish this one. I am not sure why I put this aside, but it has been sitting there for the best part of 2 years. I suspect it may have been I had lost heart after having some issues with the decals and also because I didn't want to deal with the under carriage, which I had found fiddly the last time I made this kit (as a B Mk IV), and made a hash of that time. I was reminded of it when rummaging in my paint supplies and finding the pot of own-mix PRU blue (and no, I cannot remember the recipe, other than it contains Tamiya acrylics). So here is what I had to start with: And some close ups: Those radiators need redoing - what was I thinking? First task - dealing with the undercarriage and wheels. Painted and lightly weathered the wheels. Ok, it was fiddly but I persisted and ultimately once complete was actually a pretty sturdy item. Cut back the aluminium finish by a wash of acrylic raw umber in floor polish. Finished off the props, which were 90 % done. Test fit to see how it all looks. BerndM
Looking good, Simon. Nice detail painting. For some reason the same kit as recce bird stalled by me too just after it was started. So yours is maybe a good boost to get mine done, its a beautiful kit. Well done :-)
jean
It would have been a shale to leave such a good kit gather dust unfinished... Well done to get it finished, and it will look fantastic!!! JR

SimonL
Thanks. Wow! You've got a real production line going, haven't you Simon?! Looking forward to this beauty progressing. I am on a bit of a roll at the moment, but really only get a chance to "play" at the weekends - just taking advantage before my mojo disappears. Tempestwulf
I've jumped into an old build after finishing my 1/72 Spitfire too. What else but another Spitfire of course as I seem to be bitten by the Supermarine bug. The mossie is looking good Simon, keep it up.
SleeperService
That's looking like a great place to re-start from. Lovely work so far. I'm glad to see others clearing shelf queens as well.
SimonL
Spent a little time on the Mossie this weekend. Finished putting the decals on then after another coat of floor polish i slapped on some black/brown water colours (from my daughters old painting set). Its a bit gruesome, but once wiped off with some damp tissue it looks OK. Edited February 22, 2015 by SimonL

SimonL
Thanks guys :-) Moved on to my least favourite task - painting the canopy. Made even harder by the fact that I am down to my last few dregs of my "own mix" PRU blue. Need to touch up the nose transparency - thank heavens for acrylics. Couple of coats of brushed on Humbrol Mattcote on the main airframe and I think thats it for the weekend. Almost there! Sorry for the lousy photos - not much light in the kitchen.

SimonL
On the last lap. Gluing on the side windows with some thinned PVA - fiddly. And then the decals that Tamiya provided for the inside, very challenging! Finally managed it though
Alan R
I have this one in my stash as well. I built the 1/72 version of the PR IV for my son a few years ago, and the 1/72 FB for my dad a few years earlier. The U/C is just as complex... I have about 80% finished the 1/48 FB as well. I'm hoping to finish that soon, to get on with the PR version. Cheers, Alan. P.S. Lovely job. I think that I'll try that weathering technique.
