Bristol Blenheim Mk I 1/72 Airfix

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

this is my recently finished Airfix kit with Eduard etched parts ans SBS propellers. Although I'm quite happy with the finished article, my overal impressions are not so favourable, as the kit is overengineered at places with poor fit, soft details and surface treatment that can hardly compete with other recent news.

I went for Xtradecals markings for Rumanian machine from eastern front.

Cheers

Libor

Lovely. I have started on two of them and have been lucky in not using any filler apart from on the canopy. I would be very interested where you had your problems with fit and soft details etc. Forearmed it forewarned so to speak.

Thank you gents!

Maybe it was just me, but frankly I did not get the split of the fuselage with two huge gaps running across the bomb bay and design of the canopy. All main parts showed fine texture that must be sanded off, I really do not enjoy starting the build with sanding down complete kit ( btw the kit lacks some panel lines, wing gun bay cover, camera apperture and other details). The ribs on the control surfaces are bit overdone, too. The small parts like cockpit details are too simplified, thick, with soft definition, maybe except the Vickers K that looks magnificent. So from my point of view not very enjoyable build. I know, we can hardly expect better Blenheim kit in coming years, my expectations were perhaps too high.

Cheers

Thank you for sharing your learnings - very much appreciated. Your Blenheim certainly looks stunning as a finished model
