Despy
I'm not quite sure if this should go to figure part or sci-fi part, as I'm not sure how correct to call it a model kit. But here it is. This is the newly released 1/12 Darth Vader by Bandai. Got it from hlj. The parts are colored and I don't know how they succeed this but there can be more than one color and material in the same sprue. My hat to japanese technology. So here it is a sprue with red lightsaber blade which is softer than the rest of the sprue: I don't feel like I'm building a model kit as it is a snap kit. So I treated like this and didn't bother to perfectly clean the cuts and sandpaper them etc. You have two options: a decal paper and a sticker paper. I chose to use sticker for helmet joining parts but would try the decal with Microset and Microsol to check if they would melt over the surface. I don't plan to paint it either as I don't know how much more black can it be? But I decided to paint the burnt skin of Annakin:
Pete in Lincs
The Bandai Mobile Scout set I built had three colours on one sprue! I put it down to magic.
Madmonk
Nice Start, all the Bandai SW kits appear to have multiple colours on a single sprue, great engineering. I have built the 1/12 Stormtrooper and that had clear dark green lenses on the black sprue! Not that you can tell when its built. Andy Moore
I wasn't sure how good these Bandai SW kits would be when they were first announced, but they seem to have made a real effort with them. I'm looking forward to seeing what else they come out with. You've made a great start with this one. Andy
Despy
Thanks for comments. I tried to compare the decal versus sticker and unsurprisingly decal is much better. Here on the left is the decal applied on microset, covered by microsol and on the right the sticker. I was reluctant to use decal first as the base is black and I thought the decal color will darken when applied. As you can see, it is as good as sticker colorwise and melt on the surface perfectly. Despy
Hahaha, oh boy, you're not gonna believe what I'm gonna say right now, hahaha: [/url] Missing only the decals for life support unit:
Madmonk
I find your lack of decals disturbing, old man!! Looking good. 2

JMMendes
One question, if i may! So i was wondering, what do you think about painting it gloss back (metal parts) and flatt black (the tissue parts). Or just pass a bit of flat varnish on the tissue parts...just somethig to break the toyish look... I confess i m just trying to find an escuse to just buy one and still say "its a model kit". I ve never been a fan of action figures...but its Lord Vader... Thanks mate
Despy
I convinced myself that it is not a toy nor an action figure by telling that you have to work at least 1 hour to put it together. I've built as is OOB. Applying gloss and flat black is a good idea, or a mat varnish for tissue parts. This will give the opportunity to hide the cutting points from the sprue (it is very apparent in the picture above at cloak edge). Another idea may be to decide a fixed position, fill the joint parts with putty and applying paint all over the model after all. No matter what you decide you can't go wrong with this model. Despy
Dark lord of the Sith has got a companion right now, a 1/12 Bandai Stormtrooper. As the building was straightforward, I haven't taken many pictures: I finished as is. You may want to use putty at the back of the helmet but this would require painting. The trooper looks short necked too and you may want to correct that weird posture but here it is: A family shot with the dark lord and Revo C-3PO and Revo R2-D2
Gimme Shelter
A superb collection of iconic figures. I am really glad to see these and other Bandai Star Wars Kits up on the Forum as I love them all but don't have the time to make them myself - they all look really well made and with superb detail. Your collection looks really brilliant and has saved me a lot of money buying them myself only to store them for many unmade years. thanks for sharing, and may the force be with you always, young Skywalker. Mike
heh! My Vader is stalled waiting for me to paint the back of his scone. Nice fit & clever design of both the parts & the sprues - not many companies have tried multi-shot sprues before, but it seems to be Bandai's stock-in-trade. I must get my act together and finish Vader off, as it won't really take much. I don't think his look is quite as good as the Stormtrooper, but then it's difficult to accurately portray a big flowing cloak in stiff un-moving plastic
