PlaStix
One or two links more, would have been nice but the effect of the mounted tracks looks good. Well done ! looks like "modelling weather" here, have a great Sunday ! Good morning Bernd. Hope this Sunday morning finds you well. It's okay I've still got 6 spare links which I'll use when I come to fit them properly if I think they'll add to the effect of the sag. They already fit quite well - it's just that, because they are still loose, they moved around a lot when I was setting the tank up for the photos. The weather's not too bad here - except that I might have to mow the lawn this afternoon.........:-( Have a good modelling Sunday. PlaStix
Coming along lovely Stix. The 'damage' is great. I have a go at it next time I build a tank!Good morning Nigel,Thank you very much. I think the damage does add to these Tigers' appearance. This morning I spent more time than I had intended getting the 1/72 Dragon Tiger 1 closer to the finish line. I was planning on spending some time on the two Spitfires which have been on hold for a couple of weeks but, as time was going to be limited, I decided just to do something basic and ended up giving the assembled pair of tracks a dry-brushing with Humbrol's Gunmetal: Kind regards, Stix

JackG
Coming along nicely. Not sure how accurate you want to go with weathering the tracks, but the topside of the guide teeth would not wear to bare metal. Abrasion does occur along the sides when they rub against the metal edge of the road wheels. regards, Jack

Pawel Szczudlyk
Hi Stix your tiger is very nice. You doing good work with it. Flexible tracks are easier to put on but to put them together is hard and time consuming....but still fun. I'm struggling with mine now. Cheers

Flexible tracks are easier to put on but to put them together is hard and time consuming....but still fun. I'm struggling with mine now. Cheers Thank you for your kind comments. Yes it took me a while to get my tracks done but I think it will be worth it. I've just been looking at your thread and the tracks - they do look good. Very impressive Cliff Thank you Cliff.Spent quite a bit of time on this over the weekend but only took photos today. First of all I got some more parts glued together. The camouflage colours are on and dry-brushed over. I used Humbrol's 252 Olivgrun and 160 German Camouflage Red Brown - both applied by a stippling brush. The dry-brushing was done with a lighter version of Desert Yellow. I also touched up the colour of the damaged Zimmerit: And finally a photo which includes the tracks that I have started weathering and the parts still on the sprues which have had some paint added: Hopefully I will get this finished next weekend. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix Edited March 29, 2015 by PlaStix

BerndM
Great paint work and weathering. This will be a stunning kit, once finished. On most of my pix from Tigers in Normandy, they look dusted but not much mud, so you nailed this look very much
PlaStix
Looking brilliant Stix. Can't wait to see completed model Thank you - nor can I! I'm hoping to get it finished this weekend - I really want to get onto the Hobby Boss M4A3! I want a good couple of months to build it. Great paint work and weathering. This will be a stunning kit, once finished. On most of my pix from Tigers in Normandy, they look dusted but not much mud, so you nailed this look very much Thank you Bernd - it's very kind of you to say that. And thank you for the information about the state of the Tigers. Yes it does seem like they were mostly dusty with some having mud in places. I have borrowed some Mig Mud to test so I might try a bit here and there. Kind regards, Stix Edited March 31, 2015 by PlaStix
BerndM
Good idea, Stix, lesser is sometimes more. Have you experiences with "mud from the bottle" ? Maybe you have a test bed like my Trumpy Sherman hull.

Not sure what yet but I'll have something suitable in the spares box.Kind regards, Stix
PlaStix
I spent a reasonable amount of time on this Tiger today and I've added quite a few of the remaining items. The spare track links have been glued to the sides of the turret, the tools and tow cables are on the top surface of the hull, the winch is on the back and the front machine gun is in place. I also decided I needed to get the decals on the sides of the hull as I still need to add the port side tow cable - I figured it would be hard to apply the decal on that side once the cable was attached. I had read that these decals were poor and in fact both decals did break a little but, with a little patience, I managed to get them to work okay. Some photos of the progress so far: I have also added a fair few washes to the tracks. Next I need to add the side tow cable and then it will be time for the final weathering. I'm going to add the turret machine gun at the very end because I know I'll just knock it off before I get it finished. Before I add the tracks I'm still going to do as Jack suggested and paint in the ends of the teeth on the drive sprockets. Comments and suggestions welcome. PlaStix
First job today was to glue the tow cable on the side of the hull followed by getting some more washes on the tracks before attaching them to the Tiger. I thought someone might be interested in seeing a photo of where I've got the individual Skybow link tracks to compared with the rubber band style tracks provided with the kit itself: I next decided, before adding the tracks and starting the weathering, that the remaining decals ought to be applied. Apart from anything else some of the weathering is going to go over the decals. I cut each one out as close to the actual image as possible. These all went on without a problem and I was able to, reasonably successfully, cut out the small area on the port side 2 where the damaged Zimmerit is. Next, as Jack had suggested, I repainted the ends of the teeth on the drive sprockets before fitting the tracks: Some general views of the tank with the tracks in place: Next will be some final weathering before attaching the machine gun. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix Edited April 5, 2015 by PlaStix
sean
Excellent Stix, that's one mean looking tank, and built to your usual high standards. Very much looking forward to seeing the finished build, Sean
PlaStix
Excellent Stix, that's one mean looking tank, and built to your usual high standards. Very much looking forward to seeing the finished build, Sean Thank you Sean. It is almost there.Seeing it was a bank holiday Monday I managed to get more done today. First off I added some more weathering (which I need to tone down a little in places). I also did some experimenting with some Mig Mud and then applied some to the hull and tracks. It seems like good stuff but, although it's described as 'fine' on the tub, it seems as though it might be 'fine' for 1/35 but slightly too coarse for 1/48 - I think it's alright as long as you don't look too closely. I've still got some work to do on it, including making some figures, but, as the weather was nice I couldn't resist taking a few photos on the long grass mat with my Spitfire display stand sky background behind: Later on this evening I also managed to fit the aerials on all 3 of my Tigers. The light wasn't too good but hopefully it's just visible on this one: I'm going to try to get this one finished tomorrow including making a couple of tank crew to go with it. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix Edited April 6, 2015 by PlaStix
PlaStix
I did actually start work on a couple of figures this morning but got sidetracked by my Hobby Boss M4A3 kit. I got the two glued together and a some filling done. I may try and get these painted over the next couple of days. Kind regards, Stix
BerndM
Brilliant build and well presented on your diorama. Good work with these very small antennas, hard to see but true to scale.
PlaStix
As I mentioned before; this was just about complete a while ago - I was waiting until I'd got the figures on board before posting anything in the gallery. Well the figures are done so I've also included a couple of other pics here as well: As with my other completed APGB builds the intention is, at some point before this GB ends, to make a diorama base but, seeing how the GB is about the tanks themselves, I thought I'd get some photos in the gallery. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix Edited April 20, 2015 by PlaStix
JackG
That looks extremely good, and very effective backdrop. The first two photos, shot at ground level, are really impressive and inspiring at the same time. Maybe for weathering purposes, give some chipped paint effects on the dark yellow portions of the cables? My method of choice is to hold a small section of foam sponge with tweezers, dab it in a puddle of chipping colour (dark grey brown paint), blot out on some paper and then, with what little is left, apply to the model surface. Or, since you already have a flat finish, you could do the same effect with a very sharp dark brown pencil crayon - allows better control but be mindful of keeping it random and natural looking. regards, Jack

Thank you for your kind comments. With regards your tips for the cables - that sounds like a very good idea - I shall have a go at weathering them over the weekend. I somehow managed to miss getting any wear'n'tear effects on them. Nice work Stix, looks great Thank you Mish. Congratulations to this great build and very nice figures as well !
