piggypod1
I am not able to afford a whole set of AKAN paints to complete my model of a Sukhoi 27 in the later dark blues scheme and was just wondering if any paints from the Citadel/games workshop range would provide an alternative as these can be biught separatly and locally. If not these is there any other alternative anyone can sugest, thanks everyone Phil

speedy
Get close to the colours you want and do some mixing. I was the same with my 1/32 Mig-29 recently but I just couldn't justify all that expense probably for that kit, so I got the basics and mixed to what I wanted, far cheaper. bbudde
Here are links you can find a good color reference and conversion charts. You have to download it (3,3mb pdf) on the first link, because it dosesn't open on that site correctly. But the one is very good and useful, Humbrol made also something like that years ago: http://www.paint4models.com/ http://www.humbrol.com/_assets/files/Humbrol-Wall-Chart.pdf http://scalemodeldb.com/paint http://www.hobbycolours.com/blog/akan-paint-charts/ This is a link to an app to mix your paint. Very interesting and looks great: http://www.hobbycolours.com/blog/akan-vs-federal-standard/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofjEns6Q2bw Edited January 26, 2015 by bbudde

Yes, I agree totally. For what were the original paints produced? For whose standards? With scale effect or not? For what scale? Is the aircraft new or not? Where were they used and were they used (often?) much? Were they held up clean or not? And so on .... Only a guideline as in your current life. Are you living or are you dying???... Stop making sense (Talking heads)! Cheers. Edited January 26, 2015 by bbudde
