Homebee Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Valom ( http://www.valom.net/index_en.html) is to release a 1/72nd Handley-Page Harrow and Sparrow kits - ref.72057 & 72058 Sources: http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/VAL72057 http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/VAL72058 V.P. stevehnz Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Nothing on the Valom web site, the Hannants mention is the only clue afaics. I'd rather fancy a Sparrow over a Harrow for some perverse obscure reason. Steve. 1
Dave Fleming Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Sparrow in D-Day stripes.......mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Edited January 19, 2015 by Dave Fleming
Graham Boak Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Valom mentioned them years ago, and then dropped the subject. I suspect (hope) that the inclusion of kit numbers is new, and therefore A Good Sign.
woody37 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Do hope so. My last attempt at one of these was my first attempt at vac forming....and my last - the contrail!
OCDSpecial Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Sill on the upcoming section of the Valom website May 27th 2016 as Sparrow and Harrow

JWM Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Two more boxes annouced on Valom home page: 72058 Handley Page Sparrow 72117 Handley Page Harrow Mk.II (271. Sqn Normandy) So - difficult choice... Cheers, J-W
bristol boy Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 I knew it, just as I've started my Contrail Sparrow! Mind you these could be years away yet. Will be interesting to see how they do the Sparrow as really it needs a different fuselage and no mid upper turret. Valom's research is often a bit suspect when it comes to the details, like the framing mistake on the front and rear turrets to their Bombay, so look forward to seeing their interpretation of the different Harrow/Sparrow marks when there seems to be so little reliable info out there.
general melchett Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Vaclav told me that the Harrow was still in the race, great to see that it may be quite soon...fills a gap in the types BC operated and will look nice on our SIG table. Looking forward to knocking a couple of these into shape.....(which I sincerely hope isn't the case !). I've got a lot of Valom kits now and must admit I find them all highly enjoyable to build, OK not shake n bake but that's where the fun lies.. 1
Radpoe Spitfire Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I'd love to see both the Harrow and Sparrow in kit form - the latter was operated from Doncaster in WW2 so falls into my modelling interest. Looking forward to the release dates👌

Tbolt Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I wonder how sturdy the model is going to be on those thin plastic struts for the gear? This might be one of those times it would be nice to have some metal struts.

In worst case one can reinforce the struts with needles but I honestly think it is not needed 1
dalea Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Aha! Note the extended nose in the latest pictures? No dedicated decals for that one yet.

Graham Boak Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Regarding Sparrow nose, please check the shape in this thread and please confirm that the Valom kit is not overly long.
bristol boy Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Interesting to see this as I am part way through a Contrail Sparrow to which Graham refers to in the previous post. The nose looks about right although the joins between the fuselage, extension piece and nose will be a pain to align. The shape has the correct increase curve to the bottom making it look like it has it's nose in the air! Can't tell how the twin tension cables to the landing gear are achieved? Look forward to seeing one built, can't possibly take as long as my Sparrow. 1
bristol boy Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 One further thought-all the Sparrow photos I've seen have a long slot window in the side of the fuselage like this... 1

general melchett Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Got one coming today, (managed to get it for £22 on a certain online auction site, which is pretty good), I've really been looking forward to this one ever since it was announced. A nice variety of serials and markings too....I'm guessing most will go for the sharkmouthed...guess who wont ! 1
