How to brush paint - best practices?

Hi guys,

I am quite new to the hobby and have questions to brush painting. I don't get that done in the right way. Either one sees every brushstroke or the paint isn't sticking on the plastic.

Are there any best practices you can share?

TIA.

Cheers,

Michael

As you haven't mentioned paints that you use, I'll give you 3 to start

Good brushes.......Practise.... and Patience, (and I'm still learning)

Sean, hi, your right - fully forgot to mention that.

I am working with Mr. Hobby/Gunze and Tamiya colors - so Acrylics.

Sure, practicing is important - but to get some tips and tricks too.

Anything concrete you can recommend?

Cheers,

Michael

Change your paint is the best advice I can give you. Tamiya and Gunze airbrush beautifully, but I've never had good results with hand brushing either. Vallejo Model Colour is the best paint I've ever used for hand brushing and I've tried lots of different paints over the years. You can make brushed surfaces look like they were sprayed :-)

I agree with every thing Steve has said, you cannot beat Valejo for brush painting. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is not thin it enough. i used to use a lot of Humbrol and Revell enamel but i am going off this, one of the main reasons being is that if you go over it again after it is supposedly dry the thinners can dissolve the previous coat and cause a right mess.

Michael, I use Humbrol Enamels, very rarely do I use anything else,

maybe the paint from the gift sets, and that would be for small details

in the cockpit. Perhaps if you take a look at Plastix's W.i.p's, he

achieves great results with Humbrol Acrylics. From what I've read from

other threads,Steve is pretty much spot on,

The best tip I can give you, is to get some good quality brushes, they

Will make a world of difference,

Sean
