ForestFan Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 I like the look of this very much. Quick question, how did you get on with the air intakes? I know that this kit and mine have some similarities, and although the outside of my intakes look fine the part that is fitted inside has a huge gap down one side. Hi Jabba, the intakes were fiddly and I ended up with a difficult gap on the outsides that face the fuselage if that makes sense. The insides don't look too bad, took a while to work out how they went together though (the instructions aren't great). Cheers FF
Tom Cooper Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Looks so good, sometimes I have to build me one too (or ask somebody to do me a favour). :yummy: 1
modelling minion Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Really looking good now, getting very close to crossing the finish line. You've done a really good job with this kit and it's fit problems. Inspiring enough to make me want one myself!
Giorgio N Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Looking good ! Love the Foxbat shape, looking forward to the finished model !

Cheers FF Thanks for that, the outsides of mine seem alright it is just the insides that really need the work doing to them. Yes the instructions aren't that brilliant, I had to swop the inside pieces over so that the intakes fitted against the back wall correctly.
ForestFan Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Very quick update, got the decals none, no stencilling provided, not sure if that's a good or bad thing...Varnish next followed by a wash of some sort. Cheers 4
Tom Cooper Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Very quick update, got the decals none, no stencilling provided, not sure if that's a good or bad thing...Varnish next followed by a wash of some sort. ...ouch, that's bad. MiG-25s are full of maintenance and warning stencils, no matter what user.
ForestFan Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 ...ouch, that's bad. MiG-25s are full of maintenance and warning stencils, no matter what user. Damn! Does anyone have a diagram showing the placement of Mig-25 stencil data? I have some from a Revell Mig-31 that I could probably use...
CliffB Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Nice to see even those markings on though Cliff
caszerino Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I know there are entire sheets of MiG stenciling you can buy, should you not have a good approximation in your stash. Here's one from Begemot. 1
Jabba Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Nice to see the markings on, always seems to make a model start to come alive. The decal sheet in my kit does have some stencilling, but to be honest I can't make out what is written but I will probably use them.
ForestFan Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Thanks chaps, tbh I have used a few decals from the Revell Mig-31 kit in random places. Not accurate I know but just adds a bit of 'something'. I have hit a problem though in that I can't get the main canopy to fit in the closed position, and I didn't want to pose it open at the cockpit it pants (hence no pics of it)! Oh well....!
ForestFan Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 Hi all, just a quick pic to show the current state of play. I am using the new Mig panel line wash (how appropriate for a Mig!) to try and give some subtle definition to the panel lines. If I get chance I may get the undercarriage on later. Cheers FF 5
Jabba Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Looking good. Are you sticking with the kit U/C or have you managed to obtain a SAC version?
ForestFan Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) Looking good. Are you sticking with the kit U/C or have you managed to obtain a SAC version? I'm sticking with the kit u/c, I couldn't bring myself to spend more than the cost of the kit on some aftermarket pieces, it was always only intended to be a cheap build. I hope I don't regret this decision! Edited February 8, 2015 by ForestFan
caszerino Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 This looks great! Suitably "Libyan" with the weathering, especially! Shame what's happened over there. We'll have to slap ISIS markings on their MiGs soon! For a cheap OOB build I think this looks cracking! And it's much, much better than my Academy MiG-21 I started slapping together yesterday. That thing is comically awful. 1
Jabba Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I'm sticking with the kit u/c, I couldn't bring myself to spend more than the cost of the kit on some aftermarket pieces, it was always only intended to be a cheap build. I hope I don't regret this decision! I know what you mean about finding the aftermarket stuff being more than the original kit. I have been lucky and cobbled mine together over a few years so the pain of the cost of things is spread about.
ForestFan Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Hi all, I am nearly finished so just thought I'd show a couple of quick pics. Still some touching up required and the canopy needs putting on. I may get it done by the weekend if I can get a spare half hour...I do wish I'd purchased a stronger undercarriage though as it is rather unsteady, and anchored with a good blob of superglue! Cheers 3
caszerino Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 This photo walk around of a MiG-25PD is literally 96 pages of photos of it, but I didn't see any stencils in the 10-15 pages I went through. However, this one and this one of MiG-25RBs show lots and lots of stencils. More links to -25 walkarounds here (there's 14 different MiG-25s under "Photo Walkarounds" section).
Tom Cooper Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I'll better don my fire-protection suit and a kevlar west after this question, but.... Forest, I can't find any photos of the bottom side of the front fuselage of your Foxbat (I'm wearing glasses, so don't worry): have you added the IRST-housing there? Namely, 6716 belonged to the last batch of Foxbats delivered to Libya in early 1980s, and as such it was a PDS (and compatible with R.60MKs too), 'not only' a P. 1
Truro Model Builder Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Coming along very nicely there.
ForestFan Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 Hi gang, I am calling this done. Thanks for the help and words of encouragement, I can honestly say that I have enjoyed being part of this GB, and as a topic I think it has been a great idea that can perhaps be revisited in the future. The kit is a mixed bag, some nice details but a number of fit issues. My build is a representation rather than a true facsimile of an actual aircraft I guess, but very enjoyable and in my view a great subject. Good luck with your own builds, I will be looking in to see how you get on. Cheers FF 4
caszerino Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Oh, mate, that looks fantastic! Those stencils really did the trick. It felt nearly done before the stencils, then bang, with them it really looks like a Foxbat. Was a pleasure watching you work. 1
Tom Cooper Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Excellent. I'm very happy (and relieved) to have found the IRST on it, after all. Weathering on the bottom of engines is great too. We've 'only' got to find you some more of 'rogue' topics for that showcase on the right side. ;-)
