Decalfix

Having watched the youtube video from Humbrol showing the virtues of decalfix, I thought I would try it on my Italeri 1/48 Mustang MK IV. I had painted it with Tamiya acrylics and sealed with a coat or two of future, ok so far! I applied the decalfix as per the video and then watched as it removed the future and some of the paint! If that wasn't enough, it has also taken the colour out of the roundels and fin flashes. Suffice to say I am wee weed about this as the kit is ruined. It is quite likely I did something wrong as I am not that experienced with the more esoteric modelling skills and would be glad to learn from this experience. I am sure someone out there can put me right.

Just watched the video on the humbrol site. It saY's that being amonia based it can damage some clears and should be diluted. Seems a waste of time to me. Also looks like it takes forever to take full effect. I'll stick with Mr setter / softener and the microsol stuff and daco solutions. I have never damaged a paint job with either a d they work faster too.

Also for safety's sake I always try a spare decal on a bit of plasticArd with the solutions firSt. Some solutions are better or can damage some decals.

i agree with darby;i have a bottle of decafix, only used it once,on an airfix kit.took ages to work, and left a residue round the decals which set rock hard.have used the microscale products for years.and never a problem.so my decafix has ended up in a box, accompanied by about 40 tins of humbrol non drying and unstirrable paint.

I commented on the Humbrol Video last week..

It destroyed my BMW M1, the stuff is a waste of cash IMO, now I have to wait till the end of the month to get the Micro Sol/Set goods.

Had no luck with any Humbrol products only the filler, so im stopping buying them, as i put on my Youtube comment :)
