AnonymousLL45
Is it my eyes or fo the roundels look french? Looking at the tone the outer ring on the fuselage rounfel looks much lighter than the onner one, much to light to translate to blue. Look at the markings on the stb tail plane and compare it to the matkings on the port inner tail plane, there is a distinct tonal difference. .I've no explanation or answers about this halibag but id be interested to know about it. Sorry about the spellong chaps, im not dyslexic, I just have bl...dy fat fingers and small keys on my mobile..oh and predictive text that only seems to know pigion english. If it was taken on Orthochromatic film that often reversed the tones on the Red & Blue making Red look darker. Ortho film was used by the forces as a film, it was still used to some degree when I was a Navy photographer
Graham Boak
Doing a little more digging for the met aircraft: Rawlings' Coastal etc Squadrons has MZ390 as K, RG385 as A. No good reason why two Ks couldn't have existed, but the squadron only had the Halifax for 10 months. It also has HX344 as O, all three listed as Mk.IIIAs. Not sure what the A stands for, and RG385 is a Mk.VI anyway.
T-21
I can confirm that this photograph is RAF Henlow. The hangar to the right is the current RAF Exhibition Flight hangar. The Halifax A.9, I believe is coded THE:T RT868 delivered to the Parachute Test Unit 10.5.46 and Struck off charge 24.10.51. The last Halifax RT936 in use was camouflaged and broken up in 1954/5. I was a gliding instructor at Henlow 1982-1993 and our hangar is just to the right. Dakota KJ881 was in use by the PTU at this time. Note the crane in front of the engines looks like dismantling was about to begin. Many thanks for posting. Taken at Henlow 1961 near to where the Halifax was parked Edited January 13, 2015 by T-21
