30 year old Novo Hotspur glider

Recommended Posts

I did this kit as an exercise in airbrushing doing the camouflage freehand and the underneath as a masking exercise. I also bought some galeria matt varnish to try as well.

The decals come from a P40 decal sheet as the novo ones didn't age at all. The wheels got lost somewhere in the past and as the wheels were jettisonable i didn't put them on. S on the nose comes from an airfix P38 and the serials are not on as I dont know which ones the aircraft carried but not to worry Normal proviso best seen from 5ft away

BTW I used the £4 airbrush that was touted on here a few months ago

Hi Rodders,

always glad to see other people having 30 years old kits in their stash! If this is your first or one of the first ever airbrushed models, it is definitely a promising start!

Cheers,

Mario

Don't worry too much about the undercarriage, the legs in the kit were a ficticious configuration and would need replacing anyway.

I have one built on my shelf from the late 1970s and remember using close up photos out of an old Airfix Magazine which looked close to the kit's ones. I think I just added two small doors at the front-top of each leg.

Just to clarify the undercarriage leg design. Frog modelled it as two parallel struts coming together just above the axle when in reality it was a single strut with a diagonal tie/release cable at the rear. Where the confusion might occur is that the rear of the main leg had a bent tube projecting out in a triangular shape for use as a handle when manouevring the leg on the ground or when refitting it into the wing.

I take this information from the Hotspur AP (details from which I can supply to anyone who asks).

Sorry for banging on but Britain's assault gliders (and the Hotspur was designed as one) would be my specialised subject if I ever appeared on Mastermind.
