633 squadron mosquito, I built a movie star !

Recommended Posts

I bought the Aifix 1/48 mosquito pr xvi kit and I was very surprised to see nearly two full kits inside so I had a look at all the parts and decided to have a bit of fun with it instead of sticking to the instruction

I decided on one of the mossies from 633 squadron not a great film but it has real mossies in it so that makes it awsome 😃

What about a 633 Boston next? They were modified in the book. Books are always better than the films but books don't have great theme tunes.

Nice to see someone having fun. It's always good to have some fun when modelling; that's my theory at least

If you now go and buy the old Monogram mosquito,

(The box art shows it over a marshalling yard)

you can throw away most of it as it is laughable,

and use those spare Airfix bits to build a decent one.

I did it years ago. Probably still not totally accurate but

it did look more like a Mossie than the Monogram kit.

The only difficult bit was scratchbuilding the lower

section of wing inboard of the engines.

No pictures I'm afraid, and it now lives in Australia.

Nice Mossie. I'm working on an Airfix one myself in 1/72.

BTW 633 is said to have "inspired" the Death Star attack in Star Wars... ;)

Great take on that! I've never made the link before but you're spot-on!
