Tom Cooper
Next the Burnt iron etc on the nose ring and maybe the exhaust area - may leave that til last though - then the grey! ...erm: sorry, but I can't see any 'metal' colours around the intake (if that's what you mean with 'nose ring') - and that neither on photos of Angolan, nor those of (camouflaged) Malian MFs. (BTW, Angolan C40 was flown exclusively by Cubans, at least until 1982 or so).
Tim Moff
Thanks Tom - the picture below shows it? I am going to do the grey version as below: Angolan wise - again I have no real references apart from the later BiS C340 - happy to take your advice? The JbR decals show a intake ring? http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y456/Tim_Moff/1-144%20MIG21MF%20Angola/image_zpsb6e19c60.jpg?t=1420491660 Edited January 26, 2015 by Tim Moff
JBr
Some profiles show the ring, some does not. I guess it's time to go through all the new pics I have acquired since releasing this set (after all, it's the first one I did two years ago) and update the instructions accordingly. BTW, this is how TZ-356 looks now http://www.airliners.net/photo/Mali---Air/Mikoyan-Gurevich-MiG-21MF-75/2581417/L
Tim Moff
Thanks Jiri - so what do we think for the Angolan - ring or no ring ?!
JBr
Based on the few available pictures, I'd say no ring.
Tom Cooper
Thanks Tom - the picture below shows it? I am going to do the grey version as below: Ah yes, you're going for the grey colour... then yes, there was a ring. But there was none on both of subsequent camo versions. And re. Angolans: none, really none to be seen. Though, they were 'late MiG-21MFs', and most of these had their intake ring overpainted.

Tim Moff
Been away from modelling - meant to go to Nigeria then they call the elections off at the last minute, then nib on Airbrush is damaged - await for new one - then busy family etc! Anyways - just before I jet off to Rio to work on Thursday, managed to get first colours on. Got the grey on - looks a bit bright/beige in some pics, but grey with the flash, still wet etc but I think its about right - sorry photos not great, pain trying to focus on these lil blighters! Next then, need to do the engine area etc see how it goes, get the masks off etc. Edited February 17, 2015 by Tim Moff
modelling minion
Looking good Tim. I think the grey looks pretty good, and don't forget the effects of the African sun on paint!

Tim Moff
Back from Brazil - and a bit of home decorating. Got on with some bits and pieces - unmasks the green - next will be the metallics at the rear then some Klear and decals. All a bit fiddly but getting there!!

Tim Moff
Got JbR's decals on (all 8 of em!), went on fine. Next to seal them with Klear and a bit of panel lines, light weathering with Floreys dark dirt. Then just need to add undercarriage, Pitots etc and a matt varnish! With its Angolan sister! Jan HosseBosse
Hello Tim and all, I like what you did with the TZ-357! Beneath is the state of that particular aircraft as I found it at the end of 2014. This was actually on of the last 2 to fly in Malian skies. More of my photos on; http://www.freewebs.com/jan100
