New box art Mig-21MF - ref. 70142

Quote

This is the perfect time to introduce new items for September, and these will, of course, be available there. For fans of 1/72nd scale, we will have the MiG-21MF Fighter Bomber kit. This is the more interesting of the two MF kits, serving with something like fifty countries around the world and carrying a like number of interesting marking and camouflage possibilities. The BFC component of this kit will include an SPS141 ECM pod.

Isn't a dramatic box art supposed to grab your attention and you may think i will buy this kit, whether the box art is accurate or not?.

History, whether true or not, is written by the ‘winners’.

This all reminds me of a poster on my study wall that I bought in Vietnam, showing a flight of MIGs with guns flaming  and with Thuds heading earthwards. I love the Thud but appreciate the propaganda factor. We should all remember that we only see and know what we are "allowed" to know and see, and by those who show us.

This is tin-foil hat territory. B-52 losses are a matter of public record. The war in Vietnam has been dissected endlessly in America by people with a wide variety of viewpoints. The USAF has not escaped very intense criticism for poor performance by SAC planners and heavy losses in LINEBACKER II. But no B-52s were lost to MiGs. Many to SAMs, none to MiGs.

Public record is still only what they want us to see ;)

Next you’re going to say men landed on the moon ;)

The story that I tell a lot.

Once (2002 or 2003 year, don't remember, but it was summer) I met one of the authors of this book

9781472830104_9.jpg

in the city local book market. Then he had his first book published in Russian. This book was about the history of the Israeli Air Force.

(I was not alone, there was one local modeller with me. Aha, witness this dialogue!)

I read his book,

and I asked him:

- Misha, how did it happen that in your book you say, “ Israel Air Force has not lost a  aircraft in air combat, for all its existence (since 1947)”?

- Oh, it's simple! There is such a Jewish agency

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Agency_for_Israel

. They paid me $ 300, which I would not write in my book, any negative info about Israel.

- You see, Kiril,  ( I said, turning to my companion)

the modern exchange rate for one silver is ten dollars, ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirty_pieces_of_silver )

but otherwise the price is the same!

Then we coldly said goodbye to the author of these books.

Crime this story? Not!

Just someone for ridiculous money formed the necessary public opinion for him, but someone was swaggering and not modest to boast about it!

Therefore, while there will be war there will be military propaganda. As long as military propaganda is going to be something like this:

302px-Righteous_vs_unfaithful.jpg

Translation caricature.

Inscription from top to bottom.

On Left:

- Our sacred land;

- Our glorious leader;

- Our noble people;

- Our brave heroes.

On right:

- Their barbarous desert;

- Their treacherous tyrant;

- Their primitive superstitions;

- Their backward savages;

- Their cruel invaders.

About B-52, in some Russian magazine I read that, according to the Vietnamese version, they shot down two B-52s in air combat. In the first case, the Vietnamese pilot rammed the B-52 and himself died, the second case is Pham Tuan.

It sounds incredible that the MiG-21 can shoot down the B-52 with AIM K-13 (in fact Soviet copy Sidewinder) , by the way the pilot shot down the South Korean Boeing 747, also claimed that his missiles were too weak to bring down this Boeing.

But if only one Sidewinder from F-100 was enough to bring down the B-52, during this incident:

http://www.angelfire.com/dc/jinxx1/images/Shootdown.html

then why Pham Tuan could not have enough two K-13 (Soviet copy Sidewinder, with some more powerful explosives warheads then AIM-9B) to bring down one B-52?

And if the B-52 down in the territory controlled by North Vietnam, how do you know

him shoot down AIM or SAM?

Losses  B-52 in Vietnam war in Russian:

(48 - losses)

https://ru.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Потери_авиации_во_Вьетнамской_войне

and English:

(31-losses)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_losses_of_the_Vietnam_War

versions of Wikipedia somehow differ greatly ....17 aircraft(!)...where does this difference come from? B-52 is not

MC-15 Cri-Cri Jet

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colomban_Cri-cri

to hide his loss....
