DeAgostini 1/8 McLaren MP4-25

Recommended Posts

I never posted a build thread on this one, but as there's quite a bit of DeAg chat at the moment, I thought some might be interested.

It was an 80+ weekly part-work. Total cost was around £700.

I was firm with myself and didn't start building until I had all the parts.

In my usual obsessive way I added a lot of extra detail and printed my own decals for the ones that were missing.

It was a superb kit - went together brilliantly, and is HUGE.

It currently sits under a dust sheet until I can get a cover for it.

The little Lotus 78 in the first pic is 1/43 scale......

Roy.

Beautiful and amazing. By all means post as much of the nuts and bolts as possible.

I agree, I would want every part on hand to study and visualize a sequence of construction - and added or improved detail such as you did.

Very interested in what you improved above the base kit. Million questions but I'll start with the body finish; is that BMF or comes that way? Weigh a ton? Metal chassis parts?

The body finish is as it came. Superb.

I repainted almost every other part as it was pretty much all satin black.

I added different metallic greys, silver etc etc all over the place.

LOTS of BMF detail added to the fittings and cooling system as well as adding the cooing pipework which isn't in the kit.

As it turns out, it's utterly invisible once built!

Tyre type lining in green and white was added to the treads as per Googled reference.

All the Johnny Walker decals are missing from the kit (?) so I made my own.

I made a few mods to the upper bodywork so it fits much tighter, and is a doddle to remove.

Yes, an awful lot of metal - it is VERY heavy.

Lots of other stuff but it was well over a year ago I built it and my memory has gone a bit fuzzy!

A really enjoyable build though.......

Roy.

Thanks for that fascinating thumbnail sketch. I'm sure the fits and gaps are perfect after your mods.

Sounds very enticing because the kit shortfalls are minor and easily improved.

I'm guessing that parts clean-up / flash is minimal on plastic and metal?

This looks very lovely indeed. I have never done the whole part build thing before but decided to give it a whirl with their new build the millennium falcon collection. Couldn't resist. :) I will be pleased if the quality is as good as this! Lovely build! :):goodjob:
