Lancia 037 Stradale/Rally

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys!

Went a bit Lancia crazy :mental: this christmas and from the other half unwrapped 3 Lancia kits:

Delta

Stratos

037

Currently working on the Stratos which is near completion but i am going to do a WIP on this the 037.

Here's a sprue shot of the kit which is a Hasegawa re boxing under Revell.

I wont be using the martini decals so if anyone would like to buy them please PM me.

Which rally/car are you going to be doing? Only had the pleasure of seeing these cars in action once, 1985 Ypres 24hrs rally, what a beautiful sounding car. I've got some Studio 27 decals on the way for one of mine, Markku Alen's test car from the 1985 Rally of Portugal, bright red with Martini stripes.

Hi Tank, I will be doing mine as a half stradale/rally like this one pictured here :

I would love to have seen some of the Group B, unfortunately i am not old enough to have been around at the time,

But Thanks to YouTube and historic rally's i can get a glimpse of these old monsters. Especially this 037, the engine has a very unique sound almost like a 2 stroke engine.

Hi . I built this 2 or 3 years ago . Went together well , good detailing apart from the wheels and suspension seem to be from a Tarmac rally , not the rough gravel Acropolis Rally . Apart from that a fine kit of a classic rally car .

How much would you like to own that? Drool!

Yes they made quite a tinny sound, like you say almost like a 2 stroke, and a highly strung one as well.

The ones I saw were the West and Bastos ones, the rally was won by a R5 Maxi Turbo which like all Group B cars sounded superb.

I told a lie actually about the one I'm going to do, it was a car used for testing for the Rally of Portugal, a rally that Alen didn't take part in.

If you are into your Lancias do you know about this company? Plenty of stuff here to get your teeth into.

I've built a few of the Stratos kits and got a few in the stash along with some of those 037s.

They're 1/43 kits of resin, white metal and p/e and well worth the effort to build.

Like your self I spend many a hour on you tube watching the good days of rallying.

Look forward to seeing your build.

Tim.

I Certainly would! but the closest i can come to is building a scaled down version, these go for anything between £200,000 - £300,000, although i'm sure a replica is relatively cheap compared to an original.

I Look forward to seeing your version with the Decals, Thanks for the link definitely one to be bookmarked.

I Have some spare Stratos 1987 PIRELLI decals if you ever needed them

Update soon

Cheers

Sam

Got some good progress on this today,

Got the interior and roll cage installed, front suspension and managed to source a spare wheel as there wasn't one with the kit.

And have cut out the grills on the bonnet and will install some mesh.

Looking good, I've got this and the Hasegawa versions in my "To-do" pile eventually ;)

And for all those wishing they had seen some Group B cars in action, you still can !

A group called Slowly Sideways showcase some of these vehicles regularly and are due to have an open air rally event as part of this years Race Retro in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire. http://www.raceretro.com( http://www.raceretro.com/live-rally-stage/4586764460 for the details about the live running.) To still see the Escorts, Lancias, Audis and 6R4s blasting around is amazing stuff.

A little on-topic taster of what was running there in 2008 (and somewhere on my Video Camera, I've got some cracking footage of when I last went in 2010 and the limited edition Aston Martin rally car  .)

Another update this afternoon:

Sprayed all the bodywork in paint code FIAT swift red which i think is a really really good match!

Brakes installed Wheels installed and the bodywork test fitted again.

Currently marker penning the window frames in then installing the glass etc.

And cutting and marking up the grill for the bonnet vents and the rear grill.

More to come

Thoroughly enjoying this build, i was a little worried about it being revell as all the revell kits i have made go together horribly... well when i compare them to Hasegawa/Tamiya etc.

But luckily its not too bad at all,

So yesterday i spent some time on it and am almost complete.

installed the grills into the front bumper

Cut to size a new rear grill as the one supplied was horrible

Installed all the glass and marked in the window rubbers

drilled a hole into the gearbox and used a cocktail stick painted black as the rear bonnet holder

Need to get the fuel caps, door handles and have decided against mudguars.
