Airfix Swift

Another delay then! Shouldn't Airfix put out a note on their site to apologise for this further delay and the reason(s) for it?

Yeah, no worries - you're right about the resemblance. But...

Take a look at this link, post #25

http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?49793-Bluebird-%28K7%29-Project

A picture showing the wings of the Gnat that donated it's engine and fin to K7 - XM691, one of the prototypes. Mind you, by the time of the fateful run she had had a replacement engine fitted after the intakes collapsed during a run.

Well that settles that then! I wonder how I thought otherwise?

Keeping on thread...... I'd rather Airfix just got it right rather than rush a release. We've waited this long, a few more months won't hurt, it's not as if I'm short of anything to build (owner of 'the problem' stash  ).

I don't know whether to feel ecstatic or ashamed - I have the Swift kit, one of the American batch, and it has no flaws of any kind whatsoever. No ejector push-throughs, no canopy flow lines or cracks. It's a sweet little kit, but please tell me I don't have to put that bloated belly thing on. That ruins what is otherwise a sleek design. It won't need any extra fuel to sit in my display case. :)

Cheers,

Bill

Nope, they flew without the tank as well

You could always buy one of the slightly faulty ones from the USA. As the build thread showed, it's nothing much to fix up.

When I compare free delivery and a discount from my pre ordered source with 12 or fifteen quid plus customs and postage levies from the U.S., that option doesn't seem very attractive but it was a kind thought and thank you for suggesting it. Maybe if I peg out before the UK items appear, I can arrange to be buried with my pair.

  • 4 months later...

I got out mine yesterday to start converting it to a Mk 1, saw that there were cuts not on panel lines to make, and wordlessly packed it back up and put it away.

Hope you'll reconsider this, while they were a failure, the early Swift fighter variants are IMHO very interesting

I've had an idea and a cunning plan has evolved. Yesterday I started working on an F7 conversion using the CMR resin kit as a basis and with the Freightdog conversion set.

The Airfix kits will now very rapidly arrive in the UK, just in time to synchronise with my quite expensive conversion.

Well it worked for me and the I-153 in 1/72nd scale, although it took a few years. I bought something like four or five kits (no exaggeration) to try and bash together into a decent representation of the Chaika, but thankfully, before I had put too much effort into it (quite a bit, mind you, but not too much), ICM came out with a very nice new-mould I-153. If you like the Chaika, no need to thank me, it's all in a day's work for 'Bicycle Repair Man'*. Getting back on topic (do I have to?), the Swift is an attractive aeroplane, especially in the PRU scheme. I suppose when everything is sorted out regarding ejector pin marks, canopies, QC problems, etc., I'll probably pick one up.

Regards,

Jason

*With apologies to Monty Python.
