North American B-25 J "Bottoms Up II", Hasegawa 1/72

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

here i want to show my North American B-25 J Mitchell "Bottoms Up II":

Original aircraft:

"Bottoms Up II" (B-25J-5 43-27900, 486th BS / 340th BG) flown by 1Lt. Clarence Morton, operated in the spring of 1944 in Italy and carried out various attacks against German military. On 12 March 1944, the aircraft should do its 39th mission. When attacking a railway bridge near Ora (northern Italy), the machine was hit by flak ín the right engine, after dropping of her bombs.

1Lt. Morton managed to fly "Bottoms Up II" approximately 600 km to the former base of the 486th BS on the island of Corsica. There he made an emergency landing. In this case, the plane was so badly damaged that it was abandoned. (Source: Osprey Combat Aircrafts 32, B-25 Mitchell Units of the MTO).

Here you can see "Bottoms Up II" passing by during her last raid over the Mediterranean sea:

Construction:

I bulit this model nearly out of the box. Some tiny parts were scratch built:

- some cables and hydraulic lines

- antennae wires
- landing and position
lights and pitot tube

Tailsitting:

The Tailsitting has been fixed by chocks, which were glued to the main wheels. The model had already received a lot of weight in the fuselage during construction. However, since the glass nose section can not be weighed, all the weight was not enough. By the chocks the rotation axis is laid back about 8 mm and now the model stands stable. A simple trick to extend the lever arm.

Painting:

The kit was as painted with Gunze acrylics and different Alclad II aluminium tones.

Vry nice built! - what is a story with this yellow undersurfarces? Unusual.

Here you can see "Bottoms Up II" passing by during her last raid over the Mediterranean sea:

Excelent photos... Moreover - it a first drone! - no pilot in cabin :)

Cheers

Thank you very much.

The yellow undersurfaces are shown on a colour photo in "Osprey Combat Aircrafts 32, B-25 Mitchell Units of the MTO" on page 63. I don't know the reason for this, but it looks very beautyful.

"Brake key" is a translation error. I want to say chock :banghead: .

Not a criticism for sure, the work is superb! (both model and photos) - just a joke, sorry if not clear :)

Actually I looked so carefuly for a pilot, to be sure that it is photo of a model, not real machine, the impression of reality was so strong!

Cheers
