Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Starter MkIa

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

So I finally got around to building my spitfire!

Total time it took is under a week including drying, sleeping etc. :D

This is my first build ever, I am now going to start on the Airfix 737. Let me know what you think

I used the paints provided in the kit except for Revell Aqua aluminium for bits of the landing gear. I used UHU for to glue the canopy to the body. There's a pilot inside. Also, I used decalfix for the decals, decalfix worked amazingly well I'd say. Lastly sealed everything in with two thin coats of Revell Aqua Gloss.

[Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this build over at another thread :D ]

See below the pictures of the final product :

That's it. Let me know what you think! I'm going to be building the Airfix 737-200 soon, so let me know what I can improve on. I'll start a new build thread tomorrow or something for the 737 in the airliners section :D .

Cheers,

Hamdhan :)

Looks fantastic for a first kit Hamdhan, if you wanted to try and get a cleaner edge on your canopy painting you could try using masking tape, like Tamiya tape, or just carefully scrape away any excess with the tip of a toothpick.

Nice job :thumbsup2:

Looks good for a first kit I'd be happy if my first kit looked like that :)

You mentioned you used the paints with the kit here's a tip if your using those if you just put a couple of drops of water in them it stops them drying off so fast so the go further and stops the paint from pulling

Nice belly though that's very even :)

I initially put a coat of vallejo primer (forgot to mention that, oops).

Then put several thin coats of the dark brown/green. I did thin it down. I just didn't thin down the lighter green used for the camo. :(

A fantastic first kit! Show winners looked like that 30-odd years ago when airbrushes and stuff counted as exotica (me, I still use a hairy stick as the One Who Must be Obeyed -- and progeny -- cannot abide compressors, and we have a modest abode or I can jolly well go to Siberia). You've obviously got modelling on your blood, so all I can say is, go at it and _enjoy_!

Lovely work, particularly given this was brushpainted; I could not hope to achieve the level of brushwork you've managed, let alone on my first attempt -- if I may be so bold, however, it appears the landing gear doors are on backwards. This is nothing to be ashamed of, it seems to happen a fair amount on Spitfire builds.

Great result for a first kit ever!

Mine was a Heller 1/100, left unpainted, covered in glue covered fingertip smudges... Yours is indeed a work of art in comparison.

The next one will be even better!

Well done
