Building a Battle

There was an article in an old Airfix Magazine on converting the then new Battle kit into a Fulmar (when I tried it, my effort was pretty unconvincing but in fairness the author's looked a lot better). Much later, there was another on producing a Fairey P4/34, the Fulmar's predecessor - but this time the author started with a Bf110. Apart from, possibly, some detail parts, I don't think a Fulmar kit would contribute much to accurising a Battle. The P4/34, and the Fulmar, was a completely different aircraft from the Battle, significantly smaller all round, and none of the most obvious errors on the Airfix Battle - which I guess is the one you're thinking of - could be fixed by taking the corresponding parts from a Fulmar kit. Nose, tail surfaces and canopy are all different. The Fulmar's wingspan is 7.5' less than the Battle's and I don't think anything you might be able to do with Fulmar parts to correct the Battle kit's incorrect wing shape would be easier than using plastic card and filler.

There was an article in one of the modelling mags fairly recently that corrected the issue with the wings by inserting a sheet of plasticard between the two halves to the right dimensions and then building up the profile with more card and filler. I can't find it just now to verify the details but it seems a good approach.

I have the replacement nose and it looks good but it's an extravagance and woody37 is right, a plug would work just as well.
