Airfix 2016

While were waffling on about Airfixian business strategy and future releases, I believe the momentum they have created is a smart, steady release of subjects that can be banked on for combination sets and stand alone interest given the state of current competitors. Filling the gaps with the most popular/demanded/wished-for models is a sure thing. Hopefully this equates to exponential sales growth and reinvestment into those sought after kits we all want to see. A radial Halifax, fish bowl canberra and a swarthy bucc would all be safe wagers for next release season.

The 2015 Airfix announcements are awesome, but... what about 1/72 metal-wing Hurricane I??? And why there is no new 1/72 vehicle? Sherman Firefly? Churchill? Crusader? Matilda? There is no proper 1/72 Crusader available! And no decent Matilda too! These are pretty popular tanks!

Anyway, I'm very happy.

Actually having built both the Hasegawa metal wing Mk I and the Airfix 'rag' wing Mk I, I found the Hasegawa kit the more enjoyable one to build, as it went together perfectly, unlike the fiddly Airfix kit. I've got another Hasegawa Hurricane Mk I in the stash, as well as a couple of Sea Hurricanes.

thanks

Mike

Very impressive line up from Airfix.

Whitley is the star for me. Interesting plane, excellent choice.

Wildcat... love that plane, I've got a few decal sets available for it, hoping for an -3 as well though.

Shackleton... wow. Too rich for me and I think it is hideous, but a very daring choice from Airfix and I'm happy for all those who've been dreaming of one.

Stuka... no-brainer really but very welcome.

Beaufighter, again very welcome to have access to one at a decent price.

And last but not least a Kate! I love love love the Mania tooling (still have three on the shelf) but again kudos to Airfix for having the guts to do one. I will get at least one to promote their support for Japanese types.

This in addition to the 111 and Defiant which already look very good.

All together extremely impressive... we are being spoiled by Airfix! Keep it up guys!

Looking at the 2015 list, one reissue I'm surprised is not there, some of Airfix 54mm figure range, as they did a well regarded Napoleonic range, and it's the 200th anniversary of Waterloo coming up.

Julien posted in the Multipose reissue review, that the moulds are still useable.

a look through some of the builds here will show why they are worth redoing
