GForceSS
Does any after market outfit make the resin bits for a Finnsh T-72? Meaning the automotive style tail lights and turn signals for the rear fenders. Or does any model manufacturer include them in a 1/35 kit? I am building Tamiyas kit. and I have an old DML T-72 buried somewhere too. Thanks in advance.
demiles
A couple of things with the Finish T-72 first the tail lights are just rectangular boxes with a recessed area for the lights and these are very easy to scratch build. From what I have been able to glean from my research is the front indicators are only installed while the vehicle is on a public road while the rear lights are brake lights and remain on the vehicle at all times. The next and most important is the turret both the DML and Tamiya are useless and depending on the period you are building I strongly recommend replacement. For a late period T-72 I would go with SBS Model T-72M1 'Suomi' Finnish version turret http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/usg4eczz8qhywbpb4usl.html an added advantage to the above is it comes with limited selection Finnish decals or for an early version T-72M1/A turret for Tamiya kit http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/smx2iy1p6wruhlzmkcep.html hope this helps

Jim Carswell
Little late, but the Dragon T-72 has the older style Finnish fender reflectors. The newer type (as seen here): http://www.andreaslarka.net/ps264202/ps264202.htmlare a bit simpler. The best set of detail photos I've seen is on the Facebook T-72 group: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.833940769962654&type=1 (you might have to join first). I've got lots of pics of the Parola vehicles too; but pretty much the same as those :-) Jim
tippe
Hi! I've purchased the SBS-set and I'm a little bitt dissapointed with it. Please check the photos of my review at http://www.pienoismallit.net/kirjoitukset/arvostelu_646/ (Sorry - in Finnish). The turret stowage boxes are far too short. SBS is the grey one and JS-models turret and box has the cream colour. Latter box has exacy dimensions compared to a real one (measures taken by myself when I was duing my national service with those things 20 yeaers ago.) As Demiles metioned, Finnish T-72's has retangular lihgts, but they hasn't always been fitted. The pictures taken at the Andreas Lärkas website above are from a T-72 purchased from ex-DDR stock. They were manufactured either in Poland or Tsechoslowakia (Finnish serial numbers Ps.264-200.., Ps. 264-300...) The original Soviet T-72's received early 80's had serials Ps. 264- less than 150 and Ps.265- for command vehicles. Most of the Soviet ones had original 8-spoke wheels as Tamiyas kit, but the later ones had T-80-style 6-spoke wheels mostly. Cheers, Tippe
Jim Carswell
Hei Tippe, Would you say the JS Models one is still the most accurate? I think you can still get them from the Kuivalainen store in Helsinki, but not sure about the bins. Glad I still have mine from Jarmo! Some day I'll get started...now the new Trumpeter T-72's have me thinking... Jim
tippe
Hi Jim, I got my JS-Models stowage box from Kuivalainen 3 weeks ago. And yes - definately, it is spot on when it comes to accuracy. And when speaking about the turret itself, when comparingboth of them to photos, I still got the feeling they can't beat the JS-models one. The box I've measured by myself, turret - it's only a feeling.
demiles
Hi Tippe and Jim, Tippe just read your post and I think I should have added that my T-72 was done with the JS Models conversion which I purchased back in 2009 on a visit to Helsinki and it was perfect. I read the review and looked at the pictures on pienoismallit.net and was surprised top find the turret bins were so wrong therefore GForceSS forget my post above and as Tippe said go for the JS Models conversion and get a set of Echelon Fine Details [EC D356004] Finnish T-72M1 Decals.
