lasermonkey
More Chinooks. Over the past week we have had one over around lunchtime and another heading in the opposite direction later in the evening.
DennisTheBear
Over the places I've lived in in Townsville, Queensland (and yes, we have an airport here in the far North of the big blob) I've seen everything the RAAF has flown since just before the FA-18s came into service, F-16s, plus all the civvie flying thing including the Careflight helo, and even on one memorable occassion a P-51. noelh
This morning. I was awake about 4am considering whether I really want to go to Africa with my mate. I heard jet noise and I upped my radar 24 to see what's inbound. Well everything. literally a stream of jets, like a bomber stream all headed for Europe from North America. All the red eyes due to land in Europe first thing. Get your business done and head back. You know the ecos, worry about all the jets. If they got up early enough they'd see it. lasermonkey
The unmistakeable drone of turboprops had me checking ADS-B and sure enough, C-130H 91-1231 was flying overhead at 26,000ft.

Biggles87
A Tucano heading NW at about 100m AGL at 1545. Don’t see too many around here.
lasermonkey
A PR Spitfire, probably an XIX flew overhead a short while ago. I heard it coming, so managed to get a good view of it. In the crisp, clear skies, it looked absolutely beautiful in its overall PRU blue with invasion stripes.
Biggles87
I do miss seeing and hearing Spitfires here in rural France, and the jets are getting fewer an farther apart too. We do occasionally see larger aircraft ( C130, Transall ) at low level which I didn’t see in the Uk, but it’s not the same.

Their website shows France next, then meandering around Europe - including back to France before arrival back at Goodwood. Unfortunately, there are no specific locations listed, only countries... fightersweep
Just had six Merlins and three Lynx fly over the house heading west over Weston. Not usually a helo guy, but that was pretty impressive! Steve
224 Peter
The EPTS BAE 146 RJ70 QQ102 in its new bold colours, Flying from Boscombe Down, was circling over our village at about 500ft yesterday at about 4pm. The angle of bank was rather more than most RJ passengers would experience. Surprisingly quiet engines. Didn't get a photo.... but this is from the internet..... FalkeEins
Spitfire at slow speed over the BoB memorial flanked by two Red Arrows Hawks - what was that about? ..it didn't look like the silver Spitfire, appeared to be overall blue, followed by a machine I couldn't identify straight-winged single-engine turboprop, quite large. Any ideas please anyone?

Most have been owned by Qinetiq for a while, but they civillianised them so they could offer civillian courses as well as military ones. They passed over the memorial at slow speed at quite an AoA with the Pilatus weaving about all over the place in their trail. In the sunshine the 'silver' was light blue, quite striking..
lasermonkey
Apache ZJ190, heading west. I think I'm directly under the Wattisham-Middle Wallop flightpath, so it's unusual not to have an Apache or Chinook over at some point in the day. Biggles87
About 15 minutes ago an A400M at display height ( less than twice the height of the oaks surrounding our garden anyway ) heading SW at fairly slow speed. Of course I didn’t have anything with a camera on me, but they could probably see my mouth open as they passed about 100m away. It’s pretty impressive seeing large aeroplanes flown low in a rural setting.
lasermonkey
@Biggles87 I totally agree about seeing large aeroplanes down low. The first time I remember it was at one of the earlier riverside festivals at St Neots. This would have been in the mid 70s, I guess. The RAF Falcons display team had just completed their jump and their Hercules came down for a low pass. It came down along the river, low enough that it had to pull up to clear the bridge, then dropped back down again as it went past us. I don't think there was a single person there who didn't cheer. Fast forward to the early 90s. I was still living in St Neots (Eynesbury, to be precise) and our house at the time looked out over the East Coast Main Line. When you buy your first house aged 21, beggars can't be choosers! Anyway, I was in the back bedroom, looking over the railway, into the distance, when a Hercules appeared from the south. It was following the railway and was barely higher than the overhead gantries. I could clearly see the pilot grinning at me!

The tramlines of contrails over the preceding hour or so is something I remember well from those times. A bit fanciful I know but Clapham Junction comes to mind as a description of the sky at that hour.
