longshanks
Thank you for your kind comments Superstructure taking shape now Grab handle and steps in position. The original steps would have stood out to far into the passage way so I came up with these . . . View through port door Stbd door The shaded areas in the bridge area are to be cut out Thanks for looking in, your comments as always welcome Kev Edited October 1, 2018 by longshanks

That is going to be a very hefty piece of real estate Kev. I just love the way this is progressing :clap2: :clap2: Have a good weekend,
longshanks
Well here goes todays (part) offering. I've been mucking about with the search light tower just abaft the bridge. Not only is it all angles and curves but it needs to be hollow as inside is the ford hatch to engineroom. Seems to be going to plan . . . . Right way up with the original on the plan above Just got to persuade the curve bit to go where I want it Thanks for looking in Kev Edited October 1, 2018 by longshanks

longshanks
Search light platform completed, a total of 38 pieces have gone into this! Out of interest does anyone know how pieces there are in the Airfix 1/72 Spitfire? Completed the framing Preformed the curved section Happy Days! As far as I can see there is no door on the rear of the structure Thanks for stopping by Kev Edited October 1, 2018 by longshanks

longshanks
I've been working on the bridge sponsons, these are the mounting points for twin Vickers K guns. Not been looking forward to this as it has to be cut accurately or it was going to be a mess Four formers to be made for each side . . . cunning plan. Cut one to correct size/shape and super glued three roughly cut to it Then clamped with the master edge level with the face of my new 'thingy bob' aquired at Telford from Squires Then sanded to the face of thingy Rotate until all edges done and you have four pieces the same size and square. Slide a blade between and the glue cracks off. Full pic of thingy. Don't know how I managed without one, brilliant for holding small pieces whilst working on them i.e. filing edges of photo etch Aplogises to those who already are aware of this method but it worked so well I had to share it. More to follow Kev Edited October 2, 2018 by longshanks
Gremlin56
Hoi Kev, I would do a double check on the searchlight platform door. I can't imagine there was no door, (but I have been amazingly wrong before). What on earth is that high tech tool you are using?
longshanks
As usual Julian your right. I asked the question on another forum and someone came up with a pic, so it will get a door. . . . "What on earth is that high tech tool you are using?" Can't remember what it's called and Squires site is still down. Perhaps someone out there can help? Part two of the sponsons Frame work to hold everything rigid and square Attaching front and side First web, for strength I left it whole to fit/glue Once set, I removed the centre having partialy cut through before fixing First one finished and glued in situ Sides and front left long to scribe to deck Thanks for stopping by Kev Edited October 2, 2018 by longshanks

TwoSheds
Wow... I suddenly feel like a cheat for buying my highly detailed kits. Looking forward to further installments.. Rog
TwoSheds
Ooh - and your Thingybob - not sure either what they are called... I had to make one many years ago when apprentices were expected to make a whole series of useful little tools like this, but mine was hardened tool steel. With yours being brass (?) I would be careful using it as a sanding guide or the edges won't be nice and straight for long Rog

longshanks
Thanks Guys for your kind words on encouragement. Rog If you need some extra pocket money for your " highly detailed kits " I suggest you start making these as a side line Point taken about wear issues but @ £8 for the most useful gadget in my tool box I will happy to keep replacing it. Warren I thought it was a prerequisite for joining the forum . . . . Photo etch back at you Kev
