Or you could use diluted white vinegar. I have read of some people using this. Just take a whiff of your sol and set and see what they smell of. Haddock and chips for me please

Microsol and Microsoft are a 2 stage decal setting solution in the same vein as Humbrol Decalfix.

I am confused by this...what is sol and set solution please.tia.

⁉️

Not necessarily a '2 stage' thing.

Micro Sol softens decals so they conform better over uneven surfaces,

Micro Set softens as well but only slightly but it helps the decal to lie and grip the surface better.

Micro Set does indeed smell of acetic acid.

Of the two Sol is the more useful.

I always thought Microsoft were somehow involved with computers not modelling accessories.

Must have been mistaken. :tease:

Damn spell check on my tablet. I'd already changed Microsoft to microset and must have missed the second .

Pretty much spot on!

I must admit to being interested in trying some sort of homemade vinegar solution .....Microsol costs $12.00 a bottle at my LHS!

I find 'SET' is the best of the two, it being far less aggressive. The 'SOL' needs caution since it is very possible to ruin a thinner decal beyond recovery although the latter does, as BK say, allow conformation to very uneven surfaces.

Micro Set is the version that really smells like vinegar. It is also the one I use the least. Micro Sol is a stronger setting solution. I use Micro Sol over Micro Set 5 to 1. I find it is aggressive in conforming the decal to the kit surface, but allows you to manipulate the decal for about 2-3 minutes before its softening agents really cut in. It can initially cause a decal to wrinkle or silver, but if left alone, the decal will smooth out. If the first application does not create a smooth, wrinkle free surface or the decal still needs some more softening to conform, a second coat will allow you to smooth out the decal. It use will usually allow a near paint finish look to the decals. I very strongly recommend them and I do all sorts of crazy decal applications (IdolM@ster and Tiger Meet kits)

I use sol pretty much the same as George above, like it because it's not too aggressive, and as above you can go over the decal multiple times to get it to conform without melting it to oblivion, decal does tend to be more delicate after the first application so best not to be too heavy handed with it and try to reposition after the first and subsequent coats.
