New F1 kits

I'm really hoping a manufacturer like Tamiya or Fujimi get round to making the Mercedes W05 in 1:20 scale or even the Martini Williams Racing FW36.

The stand-out performing cars of 2014 and both look stunning.

Hi,

It's more than likely that Revell will kit both of these cars first or even at all, in 1/24 scale... I'm sure the Mercedes W05 will be done considering all the factors coming to a head this weekend. At least someone is more than likely to produce them in kit form.

Fujimi will likely keep pumping out McLaren's and Ferrari's whilst who knows what Tamiya will be doing. They used to be quite prolific, even a bit esoteric with their 1/20 F1 releases, Leyton House, Tyrrell, Brabham, Wolf, Benetton, etc, as well as the 'usuals'... Great era.

and it will be a multi-media and resin curbside kit Shaun , trouble is with plastic 1/20 modern F1 kits is engine detail , many engine and F1 teams do not want anyone seeing whats under the bodywork and even after a many years they want to charge a fortune to give a licence to copy it , when you do get an engine in plastic kit form you only get the very basic`s , I gave up making modern-ish F1 cars after tamiyia`s Ferrari`s F60 effort of an engine.

Don`t hold your breath F1 Insider , it will be many years if never before we see todays F1 cars in 1/20 plastic,

please don`t think I`m being negative I would love to see modern F1 plastic kits as soon as possible also

I think it's more likely that a 2015/16 car will appear from Tamiya or Fujimi after Honda join again. Many of their kits seem to be cars that are particularly popular in Japan, either because of the driver/sponsor/engine. And I don't think anyone had much enthusiasm for the Caterham this year.

To be fair guys, I wasn't expecting anything immediate so don't worry, I haven't taken your realism in a negative way.

And it had crossed my mind that we probably wouldn't see anything modern unless it had a Honda engine in it...

Maybe, maybe not... Tamiya have much stronger links with Yamaha these days than anyone else, what would be nice is a 1/24 Honda HSV-10 Super GT car :Tasty: .

I bet £2.50 a packet of jelly babies that Revell will release the Mercedes and Williams cars pretty soon.

BTW congrats. to Lewis Hamilton, yet another British success story B).

I really don't know what's happened to Tamiya in recent times and Hasgawa as well to some degree. They used to turn out automotive subjects at a real rate, but sadly not any more. I think the buyers are there, they never left. Fujimi have proved that with their F1 models series. But sadly the "big two" have deserted us auto model chaps....

AS TEAM CLAIMS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WIN

Hornby Plc ("Hornby"), the international hobby products Group, is pleased to confirm a new worldwide licensing agreement with Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Limited which will see the F1 World Championship team replicated across Scalextric, Airfix, and Corgi products.

Hornby owns the iconic Hornby model rail product range. It has evolved to incorporate famous global brands such as Airfix and Humbrol in model kits and paints, Corgi in die-cast and Scalextric slot racing. Hornby has further expanded internationally with the acquisition of Electrotren, Rivarossi, Jouef and Arnold.

The new range of products is already under development and will be on display at the London Toy Fair in January 2015 with shipments commencing in the second half of 2015.

Richard Ames, Hornby Chief Executive said,

" We are delighted to announce this new important license with Mercedes-Benz. The timing is excellent with Lewis Hamilton winning the F1 World Championship at the weekend. Hornby is well positioned to progress a number of important licenses that we can develop across our ranges.

" Hornby will continue to develop relevant licensing relationships that complement the heritage and values of our iconic brand portfolio."

" Speaking personally, we were delighted to see that during the coverage of the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix coverage on the BBC, that they used our products to demonstrate that real-life racers begin their racing career with Scalextric."

Yes, sadly Hasegawa seem to be out of the game now with their once excellent rally car kits. There was a recent Ford Focus from the Rally of Germany, but this was a re-box with a few new parts and new decals. I wish they would at least re-release some of their older kits. They weren't the best kits in the world but always a good basis to build on. The Subaru Legacy would be high on my list for a re-release. I'm lucky to have three for future projects, but they fetch a small fortune now on eBay. I'd love to see Hasegawa make a nicely detailed Lancia Delta S4, I'm sure they could re-use some parts from the Lancia 037 to achieve this. Also the Tamiya Ford Escort Cosworths are crying out for a re-release, doesn't anyone at Tamiya or Hasegawa listen to the people who buy, or used to buy their products..??

I've not actually seen a Bel-Kits offering up close as yet, but from pictures I've seen on the web they look to be going in the right direction. Again they seem to go with the newer subjects, but I'd kill for some of the older cars particularly from the 80's Group B era...

F1 cars are fairly easy to build. The wings can be a little fiddly, but generally if you can do the rally cars you won't have any problem with an F1 kit.

That's not exactly great news that Hornby have been granted a license with Mercedes Benz. Does that mean we will see the Championship winning car of Lewis Hamilton under the Airfix brand and at what scale..?? For me Airfix is a few steps lower than Revell on the F1 making list. The Revell kits are not all bad and they can build into a nice replica. It's the mere fact that they insist on 1/24th scale for F1. In my opinion just too small, great for road going cars but 1/20 is far and away a better scale for F1 purely because they are bigger..

Well the previous Airfix Hamilton F1 kit was a pre-painted snap fit kit in 1/32 scale....

Yes I recall that kit, it wasn't the best. Let's hope Mercedes see the light and grant more than one license..?? I'd love to see Tamiya tool up Lewis Hamiltons Mercedes in 1/20..!!

So are you suggesting another overpriced pre-painted 1:32? I bet they were left with a lot of the old ones? IIRC £25ish first time around.

I can understand the economics of why the Scalextric/Airfix cross overs but for anyone other than dyed-in-the-wool Airfix enthusiasts or potential "pressie" buys for "young Johnny" it really doesn't work for most more mature builders.

One hopes the Marketing Men from Margate look out further than their spreadsheets.

Whilst on the one hand its great news that Merc have granted a licence to reproduce their machines (it bodes well for other manufacturers), Airfix's 1:32 scale is far too small for my fists of ham and fingers of butter....

It's quiet at work at the mo, may fire off a few e-mails and see what I find out...

I was almost right, except it's Ebbro!

Just seen this linked to over on F1M, a McLaren Honda MP4/30:

Not really too interested myself, but can't wait for the Ebbro Lotus 91!
