Star Wars new model kits from Bandai

That's pretty fun, I think they could've gone further with the lights. But then I would :)

One thing I don't understand - the kit parts on these are so sharp, but the figures are quite "squidgy" looking. I have some Bandai UCHG figures which I'm pretty sure are quite sharp. Seems odd!

I'm building a little stash in the HLJ warehouse which I've never used before but I've a quick question to anybody whose ordered from them in the past.

I was going to wait for until some items are launched or are back in stock and build my orders into say 2 dispatches. I'd save a bit on postage but obviously that make the value of the package more expensive. I've had orders in the past from America and have not been charged any customs or VAT… my question is would you recommend smaller cheaper packages say one or two models around £12 each excluding postage or would you package four or five together?

Just thought I'd ask to see what other peoples experiences are as browsing the web it's unclear if the parcel would be hit with charges that could be a high as the cost of the contents?

Hi SMD70,

I've always limited it to 2 kits per shipment and never been hit for VAT or RMs handling charge. Though my last order was for 2 TIE Fighters and an AT-ST and that came through okay.

Cheers,

Thanks Warren I have an X Wing and AT-ST waiting but the R2-D2 R5-D4 set "should" become available on the 28th. Decisions, decisions...

Just had an email from HLJ to say my R2/R5 set is ready for dispatch so I guess yours will be too

I'll be organising shipping once I get settled in at work...

I want to see how R2 assembles. There seems to be a split in the head piece where it looks like it's two pieces split across the top which may need some careful work to hide.

Ohh this is exciting isn't it!

R2 looks a lot rougher than I was expecting considering how good the other stuff has been. The silver grey plastic looks quite poor and toy like. I wonder if this is a pre-production sample?

Andy

(Sorry, just read the article in the link so they are in fact production kits. I'll wait and see what comes in the post but it looks like they'll need more work than the AT-ST etc.)

I can see a lot of detail painting on R2, but then painting it will probably give a better key for the weathering, as he's always pretty mucky :)

Can't wait for the Speeder Bike ^_^

Unfortunately, flow marks, where the plastic cools during the injection, bedevil silver plastic in particular. Check out a Monogram B-36 some time to see it really bad. Even worse, they will still be apparent through some kinds of natural metal finishes, too. Good luck with the build.

My droids arrived today. Very neat little kits. You can display them all closed up or open them up and fit a selection of tools in place. The 3rd legs can also be lowered and retracted. Artoo's head is split down the centre, but it's not plated so will need painting anyway. I can't imagine it'll be much of a chore to clean up the seam.

Looking forward to knocking them together, although the R5 looks like it may take some extra work. Not sure, but I think it may have a bad motivator... or something.

I paid for post last Friday morning EMS… I'm still at "Dispatch from outward office of exchange", which I take to mean has left Japan but not got through customs UK side yet?

In did see a movie on the Gunpla TV showing the new R2 units today. http://www.hobbylink.tv/gunpla-tv-episode-171-wing-gundam-zero-honoo-r2-d2-mg-double-x-preview

R5 is going to be my test run while I wait for the 3PO… if he's as good as the latest photos I'll need R2 in his best award ceremony shiny, neat looks… If 3PO isn't as "gold" then I'll dirty them up a bit with restraining bolts.

While I type this my Stormtroopers have come back in stock!

  • 2 weeks later...

There is no details about the speeder bike kit, even the Bandai site only has the film photo, though if previous kits are anything to go by it should be good and around £30 delivered.

Cheers,

Warren
